Having decided on the depth of penetration of the circle, you should remove the excess part of the pan, which can also be done using a grinder. In the resulting part of the pan, you need to cut a hole for the landing axis. The axle diameter can be measured directly using the grinder itself. A version of a homemade device made on the basis of a standard casing, shown in the photo below, was created as follows: two semicircles were cut out of plywood 0.5 cm thick. The dimensions of these parts are selected so that when connecting them into one, a third element can be inserted between them - a strip of plywood, thick paper or plastic. The result is a semicircular box, in the lower part of which a round hole is cut for connecting a vacuum cleaner hose.

The device is mounted on an angle grinder, like a regular standard protection, and the working disk is located inside it. It should be noted that the device can only be used for cutting or sawing materials; it is not suitable for flat grinding.

The idea of ​​making a protective cover for an angle grinder for use in conjunction with a vacuum cleaner, using standard protection, is not new. At the same time, masters use any things at their disposal.

Plastic canister model

The device is created from an old plastic canister of a suitable size. For manufacturing, select a canister of such a size that its width is 1-1.5 cm wider than the working body of the angle grinder. To connect a vacuum cleaner to an angle grinder using such a device, you need to prepare tools and materials.

  1. Plastic canister.
  2. A piece of plastic equal to the size of the side wall of the canister.
  3. 1 large clamp for securing the casing to the body of the angle grinder.
  4. 1 medium size clamp for fixing to the hose housing of a vacuum cleaner.
  5. 4 self-tapping screws of the shortest length, for example, 3x10 mm.
  6. Shoe or segment knife.
  7. Marker.
  8. Ruler.
  9. Screwdriver.

Manufacturing begins with cleaning the container from the remnants of the liquid stored in it. With a marker and a ruler, mark a hole in the center of one of the side walls of the canister with a diameter equal to the diameter of the standard clamping nut of the angle grinder. Cut a hole and transfer its center to the other sidewall. A hole is marked on it, the diameter of which is equal to the outer diameter of the seat of the support bearing of the angle grinder. The end wall of the canister is cut off opposite to the wall on which the neck of the canister is located. For greater strength, you don’t have to cut off the end wall completely, but cut out a “window” in it, stepping back 1-1.5 cm inward from each edge of the end wall.

Attaching a dust collector from a canister to an angle grinder is done like this: after removing the disk and support washer, put the casing on the angle grinder with the side on which the hole for the support bearing is cut. Next, if the height of the support bearing seat allows, a clamp is put on this seat and tightened. The wall of the device is sandwiched between the front plate of the angle grinder gearbox housing and the clamp. If the height of the bearing seat does not allow the “device” to be secured with a clamp, the wall of the former canister is pressed against the gearbox housing and the points of contact with the coupling bolts are marked on it. Having removed the casing from the machine, holes are made in the marked places with a diameter equal to the diameter of the bolts. They unscrew the gearbox bolts, and without disassembling it, put on a new device and, together with it, screw the bolts into place. After securing the device to the body of the angle grinder, put the support washer and working disk in place and secure it with a nut. The hole remaining on the front side is closed with a shield cut from existing plastic, securing it to the dust collector body with self-tapping screws.

A hose from a vacuum cleaner is attached to the neck of the former canister, securing it with a clamp - the tool is ready for work.

Before starting work, you can draw a line on the outside of the device body with a bright marker that corresponds to the line of travel of the working disk - it will be easier to control the evenness of the cut.

Tile cutter attachment

Among homemade devices, special mention should be made of devices for collecting dust when working with finishing tiles. When grinding or cutting a groove, there is no particular need for strict control of the stroke of the working body. Working with a tile cutter requires constant visual monitoring of the evenness of the cut. Dense metal or other opaque casings do not allow this to be done.

The best way out of this situation is to use a regular transparent plastic bottle with a capacity of 5 liters. The neck of the bottle will act as an outlet pipe. Remove the working disk, support washer and protective casing from the grinder. Having attached the bottle with its side wall to the machine shaft, mark on it the location of the cut-out hole for fastening. Then, putting the working disk on the shaft without securing it, mark the height of the future dust collector. It has been experimentally established that it should be such that the working disk protrudes from the body of the bottle to the thickness of the tile being cut plus 1.5-2.0 cm.

Having received the required dimensions, the future device is removed, the excess height is cut off and a hole is cut. The resulting dust collector is installed on the machine in the following order:

  • put the device on the front side of the angle grinder gearbox;
  • put on the standard protective casing so that it tightly presses the new structure;
  • install the support washer, working disk and secure it.

After attaching the vacuum cleaner hose to the neck of the former bottle, the tool is ready for use.

In conclusion, it is necessary to once again recall safety precautions: when working with angle grinders, the use of personal protective equipment is a prerequisite.
