The angle grinder works when you press a button. At the same time, the spindle rotation speed depends directly on the pressing force of the button. This means that the button has a built-in adjustment mechanism, the operation of which simplifies the operation of the tool. When operating an angle grinder on a stationary machine, you need to think about the starting system so that you don’t have to hold the handle with one hand and press the button with the other.

If the tool is equipped with an ordinary button, which is automatically locked when it is turned on, as, for example, in the first version of the machine, then no problems arise here. First, the tool is turned on, and then you can do the work. But most angle grinders are equipped with self-switching keys, which must be held down with your hand during operation. There are two ways out of this situation:

  • Use ties (for example, plastic) or clamps of appropriate diameter. They fix the button in the pressed position. With all this, you also need to take into account the latch, which is responsible for turning the tool on automatically. Both the latch and the button must be tightened with a clamp, tie, or other similar materials. With all this, the mechanism of operation of the device will be the following - as you need to start the tool, you need to insert the plug into the socket or make a switch

Option 3 - an even easier way to make a cutting machine from an angle grinder

Many people do not have welding machines or cannot use them, so if you belong to the category of these people, then you should not despair. There is also no need to ask your friends and neighbors to make a machine. It is completely possible to do without welding, and bolts and nuts will be used as the main connectors. So, to construct a simple cutting machine from a grinder, the following consumables will be useful:

  • Corners - at the same time, their small number is up to 1 meter. If there are pieces, that's even better. Corner thickness is standard 2-3 mm
  • An iron tube 30 cm long - will be used as a handle on which the grinder
  • Metal sheet 2-3 mm wide and random in size, but more than 20x20 cm
  • Bolts with nuts with a diameter of 8-10 mm

Let's start making a homemade instrument. The production process is as follows:

  • First, you need to attach a corner 15 cm long to the iron sheet
  • Attach another corner perpendicularly to the wall of the lying corner using bolts and nuts. If there is welding, you can make tack welds
  • Attach the tube to the perpendicularly installed angle using the same bolted connections
  • The tube should move freely, so there is no need to tighten the nut on the bolt. Instead, you need to tighten the fixing bolt with another nut.
  • Connect two iron plates measuring 5x6 cm to the tube at a distance from the connection point. These plates will be used to attach the grinder
  • Attach the angle grinder to the casing with pre-prepared iron plates

There are many options for producing such structures, so everything depends on what you want to get in the end and what consumables are available. Working with the version of the cutting machine discussed above is not entirely comfortable, as you need to constantly hold the tool (due to the lack of a return mechanism), but this is easy to fix. It is necessary to attach a spring to the protruding part of the tube, which will return the tool to its initial position, eliminating the need for the master to delay the operating unit.

There is only one way out - make a cutting machine with your own hands

What elements must be foreseen in the design:

    A strong, not languid frame. The best option is to securely fasten the structure to a stable workbench;

The stand for the rocker will fit strictly perpendicular to the table.

  • A swinging bracket (yoke), which is made taking into account the design features of your angle grinder;
  • Comfortable grip handle, which ensures safe vertical movement of the angle grinder;
  • If you can secure the grinder in such a way that you can use the standard handle, this is the most reliable option.

    The correct option is a tension spring with a return stroke of less than 2-25% of the stroke of the angle grinder gear axis.

Option 1 - a simple way to make a cutting machine from an angle grinder

The usual method for producing a homemade product involves making a base on which fixed connectors for the movable plate are attached. So, more carefully about how to do

  • An iron plate measuring 15x15 cm and more than 2 mm wide is taken. Such a large size is needed in order to secure it to the workbench with bolted connectors. If the workbench (table) is metal, then the base can be welded to it, so in this case you can use a smaller plate 10x10 cm
  • Weld two rectangular plates perpendicularly to the base, located at a distance of 5-8 cm from each other. The thickness of the plates should also be more than 2 mm. Their length depends on the size of the power tool, but usually small or medium-sized grinders are used for stationary machines, so the length of the plates is 8-10 cm
  • At the base of the plates, make a straight hole into which the connecting bolt is installed. The diameter of the hole is 6-8 mm, which is not so important
  • In the next step, it will be useful to make a movable base to which the grinder
    . To do this, it will be useful to take an iron plate more than 20-30 cm long, which depends on the size of the power tool. The width of this frame should be slightly less than the distance between the protrusions of the rectangular plates welded to the base
  • On the reverse side of the movable plate, it is necessary to weld a round oblong sleeve into which the connecting bolt will be placed
  • You need to secure the tool to the resulting movable plate using clamps, ties and other methods. The number of fasteners should be more than 2, and preferably more than 3 for greater safety
  • Having secured the resulting structure to the workbench, you can test its operation

For ease of operation, you can weld a handle to the movable bar, and also install an auto-return spring, which will return the tool to its initial position, in other words, move it upward. The photo below shows a ready-made installation for cutting from an angle grinder. As can be seen in the example, its production requires a minimum of effort and materials, and the end result is a stationary device for cutting various materials.

When constructing the device, do not forget that safe operation depends on how to secure the angle grinder. It must be firmly fixed at 2-3 points, which will prevent it from moving during work and also from “flying off” from the movable frame. When installing the tool on a movable bed, it is necessary that the position of the grinder be strictly at a right angle, in other words, the circle must be placed strictly in a vertical position.

The purchased device is suitable for processing various materials from wood to hard stone. When working with equipment, do not forget to use safety glasses, gloves, and protective clothing. Instead of a workbench, you can use a wooden or iron frame on which to realize your idea.

Advantages of a cutting machine from an angle grinder

If necessary, simply cut pieces of an old water pipe for gartering cucumbers - accuracy is not a matter of principle. In cases where precise cutting of the material for welding any structure is required, a tolerance of 3-5 mm will be critical.

The next problem is maintaining the perpendicularity of the cut. It is virtually impossible to achieve a straight strip at an angle of 90 degrees to the axis of the workpiece, holding the grinder on your palms. The same goes for fixed angle cuts. When misaligned, abrasive discs are often destroyed, and fragments can cause injury.

When you cut a lot of workpieces, after 2-3 hours of work you will generally not have the strength to hold the tool in your palms, there is no need to talk about accuracy here.

Sawing wooden blanks is a separate topic. Carefully about the grinder blades for wood, not about how you can cut wood with them here. Using special discs, which can be used to safely work on wood, you will not achieve a high-quality cut. And proper circular saws mounted on angle grinders are fatally unsafe for the master holding the tool in his palms.

At the same time, there is no need to take anything for this, because the necessary pipes, fittings and profiles can be found in the garage or a pile of scrap metal. To construct a simple cutting machine using an angle grinder as the main tool, it will be useful to use the following parts:

  • Iron profiles size 150-200 mm
  • Sleeve 10-15 cm long
  • Hairpin 20 cm long and 8-10 mm in diameter
  • Washers
  • Iron corner
  • A sheet of metal 2-3 mm wide, which will act as a base

So, to produce the simplest homemade product, it will be useful to perform the following steps:

  • Cut the pin to the required length, then place the sleeve inside (it should move freely along the pin), and tighten the nuts onto the ends of the protruding pin. Tighten two nuts on both sides, because the second ones will act as a lock nut
  • The nuts must not be fully screwed in; they must not come into contact with the sleeve
  • The resulting structure should be welded to an iron sheet. In all this, it is important to grab the nuts specifically, and the sleeve must remain mobile, in other words, move freely
  • The next step is to make fastenings for the grinder. For this, iron profiles and washers will be useful, which will act as fasteners.
  • Cut to the required length (everything depends on the tool used, but for a low-power grinder, the profile length is 15-20 cm). Weld washers to the ends of the profiles. It is recommended to use at least 2 mounts for an angle grinder, but three is better
  • The angle grinder has threaded holes for connecting a handle. We use these holes to attach the tool to the movable base using previously prepared fasteners
  • First, the fasteners are attached to the tool using bolted connections of the appropriate size, and then the reverse ends of the profiles are welded to the sleeve. In the end, we get a finished machine that can be made in almost an hour

The main difference between them is the degree of difficulty of assembly. Below is a description of converting an angle grinder into a grinder using one of the most common methods.

  • 70 cm of iron tape 20x3 mm;
  • three bolts with threads corresponding to the threads of the mounting holes in the gear housing of the angle grinder;

The horizontal part of the grinder is welded to the fastening part in such a way that the edge of the first is in the center of the latter. Several bearings are placed on the bolt with a diameter of the internal hole that exceeds the cross-sectional diameter of the bolt by a maximum of 1 mm - this will give the bearings the opportunity to sit tightly and not cause vibration during operation of the future belt sander. The final step in assembling a hand grinder is preparing the sanding cloth. An ordinary abrasive belt, used in industrial modifications of grinding machines, is cut in the longitudinal direction. The width of the cut part should correspond to the width of the pulley and bearings located on the back side of the grinder frame. Additional Information. During the grooving process, the holes should acquire a rounded shape - this will allow you to move the frame to the side, thereby adjusting the tension of the belt drive. An angle grinder of any model and size can be converted into a miter saw. A miter (pendulum) circular saw is an electronic tool (sometimes battery-powered), used exclusively in a stationary form for cutting workpieces from different materials at an acute and right angle. The difference between this saw and others lies in the highest accuracy of cutting at a given angle and maintaining the integrity of the cut edge.

Assembly process. The future pendulum frame of the miter saw should be placed on a rigid, level, not wobbly surface. A workbench table or a separately assembled structure can be used. The height of the plane on which the product will stand must be sufficient for comfortable work. The cutting element of a miter saw is always placed on the edge of a table or workbench. This fact is taken into account when assembling a homemade miter saw.

The size of the working plane of the machine is determined by the size, weight of the grinder and the purpose of its use. For a smaller angle grinder, a 50x50 cm fiberboard sheet is suitable. It needs to be fixed on the workbench in such a way that one of its edges protrudes 15 cm above the floor. A rectangular cutout is made in the middle of the protruding part, designed to lower the cutting element of the grinder into it. The width of the neckline varies from 10 to 12 cm, length – 15 cm.

On one side there will be a machine operator, on the other, a piece of a piano hinge 5-6 cm wide will be fixed. The canopy, like all other wooden parts, is secured using screws. To do this, a 3 mm hole is drilled in the workpiece - this is necessary so that the screw does not destroy the wood material. In the same hole, another hole is drilled - 6 mm in diameter and 2-3 mm in depth - a countersunk hole for the screw head, which should not protrude above the working plane.

The angle grinder is attached to the last beam from below. To do this, a hole is drilled in it with a diameter equal to the diameter of the threaded hole in the angle grinder. A bolt of appropriate diameter and length is threaded into it. Any discrepancies between the dimensions of the frame and the angle grinder are compensated for by additional washers, groovers, and gaskets. Its gearbox should be positioned in such a way that the direction of movement of the cutting disc is oriented towards the machine operator.

The back of the angle grinder is attracted to the supporting beam with a plastic clamp. The start button must remain accessible for critical power tool shutdowns. A 5x5 cm piece of wood is screwed to the plane of the working area, designed for use as a stop for cutting a workpiece made of wood or metal. Its presence will ensure smooth sawing and absence of beating of the material. The design in question, upside down and with an angle grinder attached, can be used as a homemade sawmill. The angle grinder shaft is placed into the drum through a hole in the center of its highest part. In this position, its body is attached to the drum (the attachment method is individual). A screw knife is attached to the gearbox shaft from inside the drum. It can be made from a cutting wheel on a wood circular saw. The knife is secured with a fastening nut.

A plastic hopper for loading grain is also installed in the upper part of the drum body. Grain is fed through it and falls onto a rotating knife. The latter is crushed and poured out through the perforation of the bottom. The size of the grinding fraction depends on the size of the holes in the bottom.
