Introduction
I will be 100% right if I say that setting up a sawmill is the most important task. If the equipment is not configured correctly, a so-called “wave” may appear. Such a defect can occur when sawing a log, and many factors play a role here and must be taken into account. I think everyone knows what a “wave” looks like - irregularities on the surface of the board at the point of sawing.
In addition to the wave, you can get underestimated or overestimated thicknesses of lumber, which is also not good, since the boards, after drying, cannot be planed on the same quadrilateral without additional operations and to size.

Selection and configuration of equipment
The person who is responsible for the quality of sawing (an operator or maybe a technologist in a large production) is obliged to select the right saw and set the speed of sawing the wood. Depending on the type of material, the following settings are selected:
- Experienced tuners know that the sawing speed should be slightly less than the maximum. The quality of the output material depends on the speed: too high will lead to a “wavy” surface, and if low, protrusions will appear;
- The next parameter should be the tension pressure of the tape. It must be looked at in the passport characteristics of the machine. On average, the machine is set to a pressure of 170 bar, but if there is no tape tension force sensor, then you need to install it, so you will significantly save on the quality and consumption of tapes;
- The protrusion of the ribbon above the pulley is from 0 to 3 mm;
- Let's not forget about the exhibition of pulleys parallel to each other;
- The rollers should be lowered a centimeter below the pulleys and make the ribbon parallel.
This setting should be done once a day. If the band sawmill is adjusted less frequently, for example, once every 7 days, then the adjustment time itself will increase, and the quality of the material will decrease. After the wood comes into contact with the support roller, it is better to recheck the adjustment of the machine.
Inspection of mechanism parts
It is very important to inspect the important parts of the machine before starting work. Pay attention to the rollers to see if they have any deep defects. They appear if the rollers do not rotate during operation. You also need to ensure the cleanliness of the part, as large accumulations of dust can lead to vibration.
When replacing rollers, pay attention to the seats. If they are broken, then the roller itself needs to be replaced. But if the fastening of the axle and stud is normal, but there is play, then the entire body needs to be replaced.
Studs and nuts play an important role. If they are broken, they need to be replaced with new parts. Only high-quality tools are used for adjustment, so the parts will last much longer. And then one acquaintance used such keys that it was embarrassing to go to the toilet with them
