Welding courses. Retraining and advanced training.
The job of a welder is to join various metals and polymers without fastening devices. This task is carried out using specialized welding equipment. The work uses a lot of different equipment, devices and materials. Welders perform a wide variety of jobs in different industries, so there are several specializations of welders:
- machine press welders;
- gas welders;
- welders of diffuse welding installations;
- electric and gas welders.
- thermite welders;
- welders of electron beam welding installations.
Welders are in demand in various areas of production:
- on construction sites;
- at energy industry enterprises;
- in mechanical engineering;
- in auto repair shops;
- in shipbuilding;
- in industrial plants and factories;
- in organizations providing communications media;
- in the oil industry.
Features of the profession
The profession of a welder has both its pros and cons. On the one hand, this is a rather complex field that requires physical strength and endurance from the worker, because often parts of metal structures have to be carried and held by hand. In addition, you often have to work outside in winter and summer, and sometimes in extreme conditions. Welding work has a negative impact on health, especially on vision and the respiratory tract. But at the same time, welders, especially highly qualified ones, are highly valued by employers - there will be no problem finding a job. Salaries are high and depend on the characteristics and working conditions, the region (in large cities and industrial areas it is higher) and range from average to very high. In addition, in addition to their main work, many welders work in parallel with private orders. In addition, the welding profession is considered hazardous, therefore the retirement age is lower than for other categories; in addition to wages, they are also paid bonuses for hazardous work (from 4 to 24%) rates. For the same reason, they have a longer vacation period and mandatory health procedures - this is monitored by the trade union.
A welder is a high-risk profession, therefore only persons with the necessary skills and a state-issued certificate can perform welding work. The welder’s rank from 1 to 7 depends on the qualifications and education.
Professional Responsibilities
A welder's job responsibilities vary depending on his specialty, but each welder:
- preparing products and parts for welding;
- transportation of workpieces within the work site;
- collection of structural blanks;
- setting up welding equipment;
- setting welding modes;
- equipment service;
- production of manual welding of parts, assemblies and structures made of metals and alloys;
- repair of defective components;
- surfacing, heating and soldering of metal;
- elimination of internal tension and deformation in products;
- control of welding modes;
- Quality control;
- visual inspection of seams;
- final cleaning of weld seams.
Education
You can get a welder's education in vocational schools, universities and courses at our educational institution .
In the courses you can obtain a qualification as a welder of almost all categories (1-6).
The curriculum consists of both theoretical lectures and practical classes in educational laboratories and in production. Course duration is 2.5 months. Upon completion of training, students must pass a qualifying exam. To further advance in the professional level and obtain higher ranks or other welding specialization, it is necessary to take specialized advanced training or retraining courses and pass an exam.
Average salary for a welder
The salary level depends on the rank, length of service, turnover of the enterprise and location of the company. In Moscow, salaries are the highest:
Salaries vary across regions:
It happens that salary depends on the number of hours worked. The rank then affects the hourly rate. In the case of piecework wages, the grade affects the cost of the joint and operation, so welders with a higher level receive more. They are trusted only with critical connections, and the rest are performed by welders with less qualifications.
Advanced training for electric and gas welders
Periodic training of an electric gas welder and his constant practice is one of the most necessary things to improve his rank and increase his salary. Welding advanced training courses are designed for just such opportunities.
One of the most popular specialties is the specialty of a welder. Universal welders are needed in industry, in enterprises, in any production. A welder is especially needed in construction and the automotive industry.
Advanced training courses for welders allow you to significantly improve professional skills and use new technological approaches in the welding industry from your own experience. After completing the courses, professional performance improves and the potential for rising through the ranks appears.
Increasing the welder's rank
Every year, an increasing number of not only young welders are studying courses to improve their skills, but also seasoned professionals are coming to courses to raise their level.
Courses to improve the qualifications of electric and gas welders are formed in many training centers, schools and technical schools, where welding masters give candidates knowledge and share experience in working with welding equipment. During the training period, trainees use the latest welding machines.
Courses that improve the grade of a welder consist of two stages. The first stage, theoretical, studies the characteristics and parameters of welding equipment. Safety precautions, work techniques, working documentation, and so on are also studied. The second stage, practical, consists of “cementing” knowledge in practice.
The courses themselves can still be divided into a basic system, which trains welders up to the 4th category, and a specialized one, which allows increasing the categories from 4th to 6th. Each system has its own approach to presenting knowledge and its own cost.
Advanced training course program for welders
The training program includes the following knowledge and practices:
- familiarization with the equipment;
- study of welding processes;
- setting up equipment and welding mode;
- correct selection of welding material for specific purposes;
- learn the skills of making various seams and acquire the ability to weld metal in different positions;
- critical approach to the quality of work performed;
- techniques for safe use of a welding machine;
The knowledge that is acquired in the course of training is necessary to improve the qualifications of a welder: the ability to read drawings, properly handle welding equipment, the ability to use different modes and welding methods, and so on.
Where to increase the rank of a welder?
Establishments specializing in improving the qualifications of electric and gas welders require different payments for their services. The price depends on the method of presenting knowledge, the quality of the material taught, the use of the latest technology, etc. The average price of training starts from 13 thousand rubles and up to 30 thousand rubles or more.
When choosing such courses, pay attention to the recommendations of people who have completed these courses. You also need to find out about the qualifications of teachers. Upon successful completion of training, a certified welder certificate is issued.
Some may ask: “Why waste time and money, and often nerves, on advanced training?” The answer is quite simple and lies in the welder’s desire not only to improve the quality of his work, but also to start earning a higher salary, because his income depends on the welder’s qualifications and category.

Each specialty has its own skill level, which determines the level of skill of the worker. This is required in order to determine how suitable a person is for performing a particular job, what tasks can be assigned to him, and also what level of payment he will receive in the end. In welding, the level of skill is determined by ranks. The higher it is, the better the master must be able to perform complex tasks and work with difficult-to-weld metals. Naturally, each person develops and hones his skills, so that over time his skill level becomes higher. Thus, increasing the grade of a welder is possible if he can confirm his qualities in practice, pass the theory, and there is also a need for more qualified personnel at the enterprise.
After graduating from an educational institution and receiving the appropriate diploma, a person is assigned a qualification level, depending on how he passes the exams. But this can only be the second or third, since getting the fourth, fifth or sixth requires more work experience. It is also impossible to immediately skip one of the digits, since all of them must be assigned gradually one after another.
The right to promotion is laid down in the labor code, since each employee can take training courses and submit applications to increase the rank of welder. But without the necessary conditions for this, the application will not be accepted, since this increases the responsibility on the person who will not only have to perform more complex work, but also face complicated working conditions that are more dangerous to life and health. Regulates the increase in compliance with instructions that are intended for a particular category.
What qualities must a welder have in order to have the right to increase his rank?
In order to get the 4th, you must comply with the job description for welders of the 4th category. To do this, you need to be able to weld spherical parts, weld in all spatial positions, and be able to work with critical and thin parts in various mechanisms.
Welding thin metal
You also need to be able to weld metal that can withstand pressure of 5 MPa. Assigning a rank to a welder is possible with the ability to cut profile parts using a cutter, as well as create holes in various devices. Skills are also required when working with thick metal up to 35 cm. Welding pipes, blocks and couplings is also mandatory.
In order to get the 5th, you must comply with the job description of welders of the 5th category. Confirmation of the welder category requires the ability to work with automotive parts and experience in the repair of heavy and light agricultural equipment.
Automotive parts welding process
One of the features is the welding of containers that operate under high pressure, which means they are subject to heavy loads. This requires the ability to create strong, hermetically sealed connections. Increasing the grade of a welder requires the ability to cut shapes from sheet blanks. Welding of diesel engines, gasoline engines and radiators. Surfacing of metal on critical mechanisms, as well as on cutting parts. Works with pipes of any diameter and thickness.
In order to get the 6th, you must comply with the job description for welders of the 6th category. Here you need to be able to repair motorized equipment, weld car parts and components. Repair high-pressure pipes and boilers, taking into account that sealed connections must withstand heavy loads. Skills in surfacing products subject to abrasive wear. Create connections in any position with any thickness. The main feature is the ability to work with experimental developments that do not fit into any standards.
Ways to increase rank
Many people have a question about how to increase the grade of a welder and where to do it. Now there are several ways to get rank 4 welder and higher. The simplest and most affordable way is to increase the welder’s level at the enterprise. At the place where a person works, if the employment is official, there must be its own separate workshop with shift foremen and other officials. When applying for a job, it is assumed that the person already has a certain rank. Having worked on it for 1 year or more and if you have the necessary knowledge and skills, you can apply for an increase in rank. To do this, you need to pass a special exam, which will test both theoretical and practical knowledge. In this case, work experience is a very important point, both experience in a given specialty in general, and at a specific enterprise in particular.
Review of the application takes from several days to several weeks. As a rule, several people gather to get a promotion and then the commission conducts an exam for each of them. An increase in rank is possible no more than once a year. The specialist is given a theoretical part, relevant instructions and regulatory documents, knowledge of which is mandatory for assigning a new qualification level. A 5th category welder’s certificate, or any other one received, begins to be valid from the beginning of the next month after passing the exams for its receipt.
Another way to obtain the rank of welder is through special courses that can be offered by some companies and enterprises. They provide direct preparation for passing the exam. Thus, if a specialist does not have the required level of knowledge and practice, he will be able to increase them through professional training. They can be sent to such courses directly from enterprises if there is a need to improve staff qualifications. These can be either classes in the evening after hours or full-fledged day courses. Today, more and more often there are similar things that are not attached to any enterprise and anyone with the required level of knowledge can enroll there. When choosing a place to improve your welding rank, you should definitely familiarize yourself with what type of document is issued after completing the courses, since it must be suitable for work and comply with the state standard. In some cases, it is possible to requalify for international documents, which is very useful if you plan to work abroad.
How to get a rank
To obtain a qualification document you must submit:
- for short-term courses;
- in a vocational school;
- to technical school;
- to college.
After completing the courses, you can obtain a qualification by passing the NAKS exam. When entering other educational institutions, the first rank is assigned at the beginning of training. The person who received it knows how to cut and weld simple workpieces. Together with the issuance of documents on graduation from vocational school, the graduate is assigned a second category.
The third is given if the student has the skills:
- welding vertical and horizontal seams;
- sealing of pipelines;
- knowledge of the operating principle and design of equipment;
- safety precautions;
- reading drawings.
The rest are assigned after mastering production skills and experience during the annual passing of qualifying exams. To do this, you need to improve your skills every day.
In 1-2 years you can reach the fourth category. Upon certification, the best applicants gain access to work in the gas and oil industry, where salaries are higher than in other enterprises.
