Characteristics of steel grade 14Х2Н3МА
14Х2Н3МА - structural austenitic alloy steel. Weldability is satisfactory. Welding methods: RDS, ARDS submerged arc and gas shield. Preheating is recommended when welding rigid structures.
It has found its application for the manufacture of critical parts in a cemented and improved state, which are subject to the requirements of high strength, toughness and wear resistance; parts subject to high vibration and dynamic loads; claws and cutters of drill bits of all sizes with air purging, as well as bits from 151 mm or less, drill heads using hot pressure treatment, production of bits with a diameter of 320 mm or more. Steel can be used at temperatures from -70 to +450 °C.
Hot rolled rods according to TU 3-850-80 are supplied in a heat-treated state (annealed or highly tempered) with a hardness of no more than 269 HB (indentation diameter of at least 3.7 mm). Hardenability of steel (after normalization at 920±10 °C or quenching from 890±10 °C) - Hardness HRC should be 37.5÷43.5 at a distance of 4.5 mm from the end, and 32 at a distance of 30 mm from the end .0÷41.5. Heat treatment: Quenching 880 oC, oil, Tempering 180 oC, air.

Interpretation of steel grade 14Х2Н3МА
Interpretation of steel 14Х2Н3МА: the designation of these steel grades begins with the word “Steel”. The next two numbers indicate the average carbon content in hundredths of a percent; numbers 14 indicate its content of about 0.14 percent. The letters after the carbon content indicate the proportion of steel deoxidation elements, in our case X2 - chromium about 2%, H3 - nickel about 3%, M - molybene content in the alloy, the letter A at the end indicates that the steel is high-quality with phosphorus content and sulfur less than 0.025%.

Macrostructure and contamination of 14Х2Н3МА
The steel macrostructure of finished bars according to TU 3-850-80 is checked for fractures and etched templates, must meet the requirements of GOST 4543 and must not have shrinkage cavities, friability, bubbles, cracks, delaminations, slag inclusions and flakes. If flakes are detected, the steel is rejected. The macrostructure on etched templates is assessed using GOST 10243 scales. The following are allowed: central porosity; point heterogeneity; segregation square, general, marginal and sub-shrinkage segregation no more than 2 points; layer-by-layer crystallization and a light contour no more than a score of 3. Subcortical blisters and intercrystalline cracks are not allowed. Steel is monitored for contamination with non-metallic inclusions, the content of which is determined according to GOST 1778 on 6 samples and should not exceed the content in points (average/maximum): - Point OT - 2.0/4.0; — Line OS — 3.0/4.0; — Fragile CX — 3.5/4.0; — Plastic joint venture — 2.5/4.0; — Non-deformable CH — 2.5/4.0; — Sulfides C — 2.5/4.0; Nitrides N - 1.5/2.5.
