Homemade jack
The most economical option for a household lifting mechanism is a two-post unit equipped with an electric, electro-hydraulic or hydraulic drive. In a lift with the first type of drive, threaded shafts with a moving bearing nut mounted on a lifting steel foot are placed in the racks. There are other models of screw design, which contain 1, 3, 4 racks.

To assemble a cheap but productive device for your own use, you need to understand the operating principle of a factory-made device. You can make a car lift for a garage with your own hands from the following components:
- 3 steel corners 750×750×8 mm;
- worm gearbox;
- steel plate 10 mm thick;
- 2 chains with large thin links made of wire with a diameter of 30 mm;
- hook;
- cable 5 mm thick;
- two star keys.
When choosing the component elements, it should be taken into account that the minimum load capacity of a unit with a gear ratio of 60 kg should be 300 kg.
Do-it-yourself block for lifting loads - Metals, equipment, instructions
Throughout the long history of its existence, man has more than once been faced with the task of lifting and moving heavy objects in space.
For example, the familiar Egyptian pyramids consist of massive stone blocks that no one can lift.
Therefore, one of the greatest achievements of mankind is the invention of the lifting crane, which made it possible to significantly simplify the task of moving heavy loads and speed up the construction of houses and other objects.
DIY crane
Machine structure
The operating principle of a crane is based on the physics of simple mechanisms.
The simplest version of the crane is a stick placed on a fulcrum in such a way that the free ends have different lengths.
Now if you hang a load on a short lever, it will take less effort to lift it. The most common design is one that uses, in addition to levers, a system of blocks.
A do-it-yourself crane is an indisputable assistant in small-scale construction. When constructing a private house, the use of bulky industrial cranes is not required. The height of the houses rarely exceeds 2 floors, and the weight of the lifted load is 200 kilograms.
Although there are many variations of lifting mechanisms, a classic crane consists of the following parts:
- An arrow with a block attached to its end. Depending on its length, the height to which the load can be lifted is determined.
- Platform. The boom and counterweight are attached to it. It is the main part of the crane and is subject to significant loads. Therefore, when manufacturing a platform, it is important to pay special attention to its strength.
- Counterweight. Serves for crane stability. Defines the maximum load weight that the crane can lift. Stackable counterweight options are available to provide maximum stability.
- A guy wire connecting the boom and the counterweight. Allows you to adjust the tilt of the boom and move the load in both vertical and horizontal planes.
- Winch with cable. It is the lifting mechanism itself. The power of the winch determines how much weight the crane can lift.
- Stand with a rotating mechanism. It is necessary to turn the crane to the sides.
- The support cross, which is the base of the crane. Sets the stability of the entire structure. When manufacturing it, you should also pay attention to its strength.
terms of Use
To operate lifting mechanisms safely, certain rules must be followed.
Homemade Pioneer crane
These rules apply to any lifting device:
- The load capacity must not be exceeded. A load that is too heavy may damage the device.
- The base must be stable. Homemade lifting devices should be located on a previously prepared hard horizontal surface.
- In bad weather conditions, you should also refrain from working with the crane. Strong winds will throw the crane off balance, and poor visibility may make it difficult to see people under the boom.
- Before operating a crane or lifting device, it is necessary to conduct an external inspection to identify any malfunctions. If malfunctions are detected, operation of the crane is prohibited.
- It should be remembered that when working with the lift, you should not make sudden movements. The load must be lifted smoothly. And most importantly, do not stand under any lifted load.
What characteristics should a garage lift have?
In garage conditions, two types of lifting mechanisms are used. The first type includes a lift that can lift the entire car, and the second type includes a goose-type lift that allows you to move loads around the garage.
Lifts of the first type are stationary devices and the main requirement for them is stability. The car weighs more than a ton and should not have the slightest chance of falling. In order to prevent any accidents, the garage lift must have a reliable stopper.
DIY garage lift
For use in the garage, it is possible to make a kit for lifting a car with your own hands. You will need the necessary components, tools and plumbing skills.
A homemade lift is made using the following parts:
Steel corners measuring 8x8x1 cm, for making a stable structure. Worm type gearbox. A new product can be expensive; it is usually selected during disassembly or removed from a non-working mechanism
It is necessary to pay attention to the load capacity, the indicator starts from 350 kg, the transmission force indicator is 60 kg. A steel plate with a minimum thickness of 1 cm is removed from old equipment. Set of bolts, mounting hook, star-shaped keys. Several iron chains with a link diameter of 2 cm or more. Weak chains will not withstand the load, you should pay attention to the quality of the product, some materials can stretch during operation. Steel cable, 5 mm thick.
Assembly and installation of components occurs in the required sequence, following the proposed instructions. The steel corners are fastened to the walls in the opposite direction from the hood of the car. On top of the corners for the lift, a steel plate is installed with your own hands. The connection is made with prepared bolts. Next, you need to install the worm gear, securing it with a key on the drive shaft. A key of smaller diameter is installed on the output shaft of the gearbox.
DIY chain lift
Holes suitable for the diameter of the chain are made in the plate, after which the chain mechanism is installed
It is important to pay attention to safety; holes are made in the frame at a certain distance, and a locking mechanism is inserted into them
Features of operation of such a lift
The use of a worm-type unit during operation is suitable for lifting a car engine or load-bearing parts. The procedure for using a self-made car lift is simple; you must follow these steps:
- Remove engine mounts, bolts, nuts.
- Afterwards, the steel cable loops are supplied and the structure is coupled.
- The drive shaft rotates by turning the chain; with a little effort you can slowly lift the part to the desired position.
Worm type garage lift
After lifting, it is necessary to remove the car from the work area by placing a table under the engine. It is possible to make a stand or table with your own hands; the design must be durable and withstand heavy loads. Convenient to use is a table on wheels, which allows you to move the part in the required directions.
If the car is too big
Repairing large vehicles is not uncommon; wheel size and ground clearance may not allow you to raise the necessary parts to the required height. The process takes place with an assistant, who pulls the part onto a pre-prepared table. The gearbox rotates with the opposite side to the installed element.
Car lift for large cars
Such situations lead to thoughts about improving and modernizing a car lift for a garage with your own hands. It is possible to manufacture a movable structure that will make it possible to move the lifted part to the required distances. It is possible to make an aggregate installation with an electric motor on a reduction gear, in which case it can be a real crane for lifting large-sized mechanisms.
Do-it-yourself homemade car lift - varieties, drawings, features of operation
Do-it-yourself tire changing machine drawings video
Vehicle repairs and maintenance often require a lift. This design is designed to fix the car and lift it to a certain height, which provides access to the suspension, chassis and many other elements of the vehicle.
A similar design is often found at service stations, less often in private garages due to its high cost. If you wish, you can make a homemade car lift.
It will cost relatively inexpensively and is practically in no way inferior to purchased models in terms of performance.
First you need to decide what type of structure will be created.
To do this, it is enough to pay attention to factory-made lifts - they become the main basis when creating a homemade structure
The most widespread are:
- Lifting mechanisms with two posts. They are found in almost every car workshop. To create force, such a mechanism can have an electromechanical or electrohydraulic drive. A homemade version, as a rule, has an electromechanical drive, since it is easier to manufacture.
- There are versions with several racks. They only differ in that they better distribute the load.
- The scissor type of design is represented by a platform with a lever system. Such a lift can also have an electromechanical and hydraulic drive, through which force will be transmitted.
According to the method of lifting the car, the following types of construction are distinguished:
- Fork.
- Scissor.
- Platform.
The force can be transmitted from a screw, chain or hydraulic drive.
A homemade car lift with your own hands should be created taking into account the fact that the structure must be safe and securely fix the vehicle. Do not forget that when performing almost any work, the master is under a vehicle that weighs more than a ton.
Creating a lift
You can make a car lift in the garage with your own hands as follows:
- Supports are created using steel corners, which are driven into a wall with high load-bearing capacities. A plate about one centimeter thick is placed on the corners, which is secured with bolts.
- The force will be transmitted via a worm gearbox. It can be found extremely often today, since a similar mechanism was previously used to create a wide variety of devices. Holes are made in the plate for the circuit, after which it is passed through and closed. A key is placed on the output shaft of the worm gearbox.
- The output shaft is fitted with a sprocket suitable for the chain being used.
- Two more holes are created in the plate to pass the chain, which will end with a steel hook.
This design is most suitable for lifting engines and other heavy units. It is less suitable for lifting a vehicle.
In conclusion, we note that it is almost impossible to create a classic lifting device, which is found at service stations, using scrap materials. To work with the chassis or underbody of a car, you can create a tipper.
What will you need?
If you decide to make a lift for your car yourself, then first of all you will need a drive mechanism and a stopper. These design elements can be found in specialized stores that sell similar equipment, or in enterprises that are discarding old but working machines.
If you decide to make a scissor lift, then you should select two hydraulic cylinders of appropriate power and length. Autolifts of this type are very difficult to equip with a reliable and safe locking system. Otherwise, their production is easier than the creation of lifts of alternative designs.
It is worth noting that installing stoppers on platform or fork lifts is much easier than on scissor lifts. To do this, an oblique steel strip and a retainer with a thickness of 2-3 centimeters are enough. When starting to manufacture or operate a homemade lifting mechanism, remember that you are relying on the reliability of the structure you created yourself, so carefully check the functionality and integrity of all its parts!

How to make an elevator with your own hands
The
desire for comfort is a completely normal desire. And a person who knows how to create comfort in a home will definitely think about how to make an elevator with his own hands. Often a lifting mechanism - an elevator is needed in a cellar or basement, on the second floor in a garage or house. It’s a different story when disabled or elderly people live in the house.
Video version of the article
It is advisable to provide for the installation of an elevator at the architectural design stage. Installing an elevator in a completed house adds both work and financial costs.
DIY garage lift
For your garage, you can make a pit lift yourself, which will be convenient to use.
This type of lift has a safe design, which is important for DIY projects, and is also easy to operate.
The height of our homemade structure will depend on the hydraulic jack used, which will lift the top, and the length will depend on the width of the pit in the garage. The lift carriage will be 35 cm high and 80 cm wide for a pit of the appropriate dimensions.
It will be equipped with rollers that are located along the width of the pit and will move this entire structure along the length of the pit. When manufacturing and installing the lift, it should be taken into account that the edges of the garage pit should be trimmed with corners along which the rollers will run.
Therefore, the selected rollers must withstand heavy weight and move freely along the corners installed along the length of the pit.
Materials for work
In order to make a structure for lifting a machine, you should stock up on the following materials:
- channel 100 mm - 1.5 m;
- corner 63 mm - 2.5 m;
- corner 50 mm - 2.5 m;
- square steel pipe 40 mm - 0.6 m;
- square steel pipe 50 mm - 0.5 m;
Step-by-step instruction
To make a lift, follow these steps:
Cut the base of the structure from a 100 mm channel (80 cm for the bottom and 2 pieces of 35 cm for the sides). First grab them and then cook them
At the same time, it is important to monitor the stability of the structure and fit the parts tightly to one another. From a 63 mm corner, cut 2 side parts for the lift carriage to a width of 35 cm. Also grab and weld on the sides at the top of the resulting base structure from the channel
Where the guides extend in the corner, cut a square with a side slightly less than 50 mm. Weld guides from a 50 mm square to the sides of the carriage from a 100 mm channel to a cut out square, into which the retractable upper part will be inserted with its two guides from a 40 mm square. Cut 2 pieces from a 50 mm profile (80 cm in length) and weld them in the upper part of the carriage to the side corners, leaving space between them for the upper part, which can be pulled out with a jack. Install the rollers to the side upper corners 63 mm. Install 2 rollers on each side, the distance between them is approximately 28 cm. The rollers should clearly fit into the corners on the sides of the pit. Make the upper retractable part of the lift. To do this, you need to cut and weld together 2 identical corners of 63 mm, each 90 cm long, making them into a hollow square pipe. Then weld 2 guides made of a 40 mm square, 30 cm long, to the corners welded together, without reaching their ends. The guides, together with the gap with them, should take up a little less than 80 cm. Weld a reinforcement made of a 40 mm square to the welded corners between the guides. The top extension should fit snugly in and out of the base guides.
Video: making a car lift with your own hands
Installation
If you have taken into account all the important aspects of the relationship between the width of the pit, the height of the jack and the dimensions of the structure itself, then the lower part of the channel should freely fall into the pit, and the rollers on the upper part should be located along the width of the pit and move along the corners installed along its length.
A hydraulic jack is installed on the lower part of the channel in the middle, which, if necessary, is activated and lifts the upper sliding part, which lifts the car. You can also store special paw attachments used as extension cords there.
Correct operation
When using a lift, you usually do the following:
- The guides should be lubricated, for example, with grease for better removal from the lift. The condition of the lubricant should always be monitored and renewed as necessary.
- Extend the paw to the required distance and insert the turned paw with the required extensions into it.
- The vehicle being lifted must be secured with the handbrake - make sure of this.
- The jack needs to be tightened and raised to the desired height.
- It is permissible to go under the car only after the lift has stopped operating.
- It is forbidden to stick your head or limbs between the sides of the lift.
- Do not place your hands or fingers near the rollers.
How to make an electromechanical elevator with your own hands
General elevator parameters
In our case, the design of a self-made elevator is a movable frame made of a 60×40 square pipe, which moves between two channels - guides. There are 8 wheels installed in pairs at the corners of the frame, with the axes of one pair (one corner of the frame) located perpendicular to each other. One wheel rests against the wall of the channel, the other against the shelf. This design ensures free movement of the elevator frame up and down, while reliably fixing it from frontal and lateral displacement (Fig. 1).
We weld the loading platform to the bottom of the frame. To ensure structural rigidity, we connect the platform and frame with stringers. When constructing an elevator, you will need to use a welding machine; here we describe in detail how to weld with electric welding.
The location of the stringers at the top or bottom is dictated by the specific conditions of the room, since each option has both pros and cons. Stringers located above the platform can complicate the installation of the cabin walls. The location of the stringers from below will require lengthening the movable frame. In this case, you will have to make a pit, otherwise the elevator car will not reach the floor.
DIY electromechanical elevator guide diagram
Installation of guides
We take no less than No. 10 channel for the guides. Its length depends on the required lifting height. As practice has shown, even channel No. 12 with a length of 7.5 meters has high flexibility and “plays” under its own weight. Therefore, during the installation process we repeatedly control the verticality, checking it in different places.
Best models
One of the best electromechanical devices is PLD-3, which is produced by the Pskov Special Automotive Equipment Plant. The car is lifted using a jacking platform. The carriage with the turning beams attached to it moves on sliders.
Load capacity is 3.3 tons. The device has a multi-level security system. The unit is mounted on a base that is concreted into the floor. Unit dimensions: 3520x1500x2900 mm.

Choosing the most suitable design
Before manufacturing a car lift, the most suitable design is selected.
For passenger cars
Often single-column models are chosen for working with passenger cars. The advantages of such car lifts include:
- ease of operation;
- compactness, thanks to which the equipment does not take up much space in the garage;
- a modern lubrication system that does not require constant maintenance;
- reliable protection aimed at preventing the car from tipping over during repairs.
Scissor-type equipment is also used to repair passenger cars. With its help, a car mechanic can quickly raise or lower the vehicle to the desired height.
For truck
The main feature of any truck is its size and weight. Due to the non-standard dimensions and large weight, not all lifts can lift such cars.
To repair such vehicles, they use cargo devices with a high carrying capacity. They can be movable, stationary and platform. They are used only in service stations that specialize in repairing tractors or trucks.
How to lift a load onto the roof
Many people involved in construction on their own often face the problem of transporting and lifting loads to a certain height. The easiest way to do this is with a lift. Such devices are very mobile; they can be easily moved to construction sites using a regular passenger car with a roof rack.
Lift for construction work
To carry out global construction work, in most cases, a mechanism is needed to lift materials and even oversized furniture to a height. Purchasing a tracing system or any other ready-made device for such a case is not a cheap thing, and in general, it is especially unrealistic. That is why it is best to do the work of making a kind of outdoor elevator - a lift for construction work, with your own hands.
It is quite simple to make such a structure yourself, if you have certain skills in the work. You will need to think through the structure of the mechanism, create a clear and detailed drawing of the product, then make all the necessary calculations and purchase the necessary parts. Only after this will it be possible to begin work on the manufacture of a lifting structure for your construction site.
Choosing a design
So, you decided to rely on your skillful hands and make a homemade garage lift, rather than purchasing it at a specialty equipment store. This is an understandable desire: the cost of such equipment may not be much less than the cost of your car, and it will rarely be used (only if you are not going to open a service station in the garage).
The idea has arisen, the desire too, now it’s time to choose the design of the device being created
To do this, you should pay attention to factory-made lifts presented on the special equipment market, “peek” at their design and imagine whether you can do something similar
Most likely, the first thing you will see is a two-post lift, which can be found in almost every auto repair shop. This type of device can be equipped with an electromechanical or electrohydraulic drive.
In the first case, inside each rack there is a threaded shaft rotated by an electric motor with a gearbox. There is a bearing nut on the threaded shaft, which moves along it and accordingly raises and lowers the “legs” on which the car rests.
In a two-post electro-hydraulic lift, the shaft is replaced by a hydraulic drive, the pressure in which is created by an electric motor.
There are other options of a similar design, but with one, three or four racks.
Another type of lift is a scissor lift, where a platform with a system of levers (called “scissors”) is raised and lowered using hydraulic actuators driven by electric motors.
When creating such designs, you may encounter many questions and problems that need to be solved. First of all, this is work safety - no one wants to get seriously injured or disfigured due to a broken lift on one unlucky day.
Therefore, you should choose the materials and design of the device so that it can withstand the weight of the car, and with a significant margin.
It is also worth taking care of the manufacture of locking mechanisms that allow you to hold the car in place in emergency situations with the lift.
And in order to prevent the latter, it is necessary to inspect them regularly: for an electromechanical drive, it is necessary to check the wear of the threaded shaft and the bearing nut; for an electrohydraulic drive, it is necessary to check the integrity of the hoses and cylinders.
And the main problem faced by those who want to make a two-post or scissor car lift with their own hands is the complexity of manufacturing and the high cost of parts. It is almost impossible to create a long threaded shaft at home; selecting cylinders and hydraulic hoses is a complex matter, and they are not cheap.
But there is a simpler version of the car lift, adapted for production in garage conditions, that turns the car on its side at an angle of 45°-60° and is called a tipper. Let's take a closer look at it and see what and how it can be made from.
Operating principles of various elevator systems
Elevator lifts are divided into the following main types:
1) Electric
(electromechanical).
2) Hydraulic
.
3) Pneumatic
(air lift).
DIY elevator guides
To move the elevator, some kind of power device is required, the most convenient and practical power supply for which is electricity. Therefore, electric motors are part of the drive, regardless of its type. However, it is customary to call the elevators of the most common cable system electric, probably because in them the engine force is directly transmitted to the cables that move the cabin.
1. Electric elevator
, which we use in multi-storey buildings, works on the principle of a counterweight: the cabin is fixed on cables, at the other ends of which a counterweight is attached. The drive mechanism, located in the upper part of the elevator (engine room), having received an electrical signal from the panel buttons, sets the system in motion through a pulley wheel. Thanks to the counterweight, cabin inertia is reduced to a minimum, which ensures smooth movement and allows you to get by with a significantly lower power electric motor.
2. Hydraulic lift
works on the principle of a jack. The electric motor creates fluid pressure in the system, and the hydraulic cylinder pushes the cabin upward. No electricity is consumed during descent. This type of elevator has no counterweights and is silent. But due to the high pressure in the hydraulic system, it requires qualified maintenance and a powerful power plant.
3.
The pneumatic elevator
cabin works like a piston. To move the elevator upward, a vacuum of air is created in the air shaft above the cabin by powerful fans. As a result, increased pressure under the cabin pushes it upward. To descend, the pressure at the top and bottom of the cabin is equalized, and it smoothly goes down.
DIY pneumatic elevator
Now let’s ask ourselves the question: how to make an elevator with your own hands in the house, is it feasible for your hands and wallet?
A pneumatic elevator requires components that are almost impossible to make with your own hands. If you buy ready-made ones or order their production, the very idea of making an elevator with your own hands is lost. And the final cost will be rounded up to such a figure that purchasing and installing a ready-made airlift will cost less.
DIY hydraulic lift
Now - hydraulics
. Alas, it is no less difficult and expensive. A high-performance hydraulic pumping station will be required, and it is not cheap. Well, and most importantly – the hydraulic cylinder. Even raising an elevator car one floor requires significant extension of the rods. Dump trucks have similar units, but even if we decide to install such a hydraulic cylinder, we will be faced with another problem - lowering the cab. Automotive-type hydraulic cylinders fold under the weight of the heavy load bed of the dump truck. The weight of the elevator car will not be enough here. Combining various other ready-made mechanisms will be no less difficult and expensive.
The solution to the question of how to make an elevator yourself is obvious: make an electromechanical
.
Buying or making your own?
A person who is faced with the need to get a car lift has several options for solving this problem. New lifts of all types can be bought in a store or a suitable used device can be purchased second-hand. There is a third option - do it yourself.
At first glance, a self-made car lift should cost much less than a new one, since its price does not include the salary of the worker who worked on it. But it seems so only at first glance. New Chinese autolifts will cost 90-100 thousand rubles, while materials for your own lift will cost from 100 to 120 thousand.
On the other hand, used car lifts from expensive companies can be more expensive than new Chinese lifts. Thus, the main selection criterion remains the reliability of the mechanism.
When making a lift yourself, you take as a basis a load diagram developed by someone, which you have to rely on when operating the lift. Before deciding to buy a lift and make it yourself, everyone must answer the question, who does he trust more: himself or the factory workers and the technologies that created this or that car lift?
Video: DIY car lift.
Reliability and safety
In addition to cost, there are two more factors that cast doubt on the feasibility of making a lifting mechanism for a car with your own hands - reliability and safety. The weight of even a small car often exceeds one ton.
A car may fall off a lift for the following reasons:
- the weight of the machine turned out to be more than the drive or actuator can support;
- the locking device turned out to be of incorrect design;
- the locking device could not withstand the load;
- The lift supports are insufficient or incorrectly secured.
To make a lift with your own hands, you have to either take a ready-made diagram, hoping that its author has carefully calculated the strength of all the parts, or carry out these calculations yourself. Only a highly qualified engineer can do this kind of work; an ordinary car enthusiast cannot do it. In addition, it is necessary to calculate how much load the drive and brake mechanism can withstand. If any of these calculations are made incorrectly, the car lift turns into a deadly trap. No less important is the calculation of the basis of this mechanism. It is not enough to simply pour a thick layer of concrete, because it is necessary to provide fastenings located in strictly defined places.
Search for parts
If you nevertheless decide to build a car lift with your own hands, and you are not afraid of the dangers of this homemade product, then start selecting parts by searching for the drive mechanism and stopper. These parts can be found in the following places:
- stores selling components for special equipment;
- enterprises that have old construction equipment on their balance sheet;
- enterprises that are updating their fleet of woodworking or metalworking machines;
- collection points for ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
For a scissor lift, you will need two hydraulic cylinders of suitable power and length, a compressor for them, and hydraulic hoses. The scissor circuit is the easiest to manufacture, but it is impossible to make a reliable brake in it. Therefore, if a hose bursts or one of the cylinders leaks, trouble cannot be avoided. Shafts and electric motors with gearboxes suitable for platform or fork lifts are easiest to find where old machines are replaced with new ones. This will cost much less than ordering worms from a turner. And the stopper of such mechanisms is not complicated - a helical bar with a lock, made of steel 1-2 cm thick.
Conclusion
If you still decide to take a risk and make a car lift with your own hands, then before choosing any scheme and starting assembly, find those who have already made such a device. See how it works, make sure it is safe. After all, you are not risking your car, but your life. If, when the car falls, one of your family members is under it with you, then you will put his life at risk.
Safety
Be sure to periodically inspect the elevator parts.
We pay special attention to the cable, checking: • presence of lubricant; • uniform laying on the drum; • no kinks or breaks in weaving threads; • serviceability of the cable fastening units on the drum and elevator frame
•

Electromechanical elevator motor with winch
It would be useful to make a simple but effective safety system in case the main cable breaks. To do this, we simply take a pair of ratchets from the inertial seat belts of a passenger car and install a drum with a safety cable between them. Assembling and fastening such a mechanism will not cause any particular difficulties, and its reliability is quite sufficient to support the significant weight of the elevator with a passenger.
In a control unit for a do-it-yourself elevator, it is preferable to use buttons without locking. According to the principle: “pressed - it goes, let go - it doesn’t go.” And be sure to provide an emergency power off button. power supply in case of “stuck” control button.
In addition, be sure to ensure reliable grounding of the elevator electrical equipment.

DIY garage lift
Since the product will be mounted on walls, this device is intended for use in a garage.
Required Components
To create a lift you will need the following parts:
- 2-3 steel corners with dimensions 7.5×7.5×0.8 cm.
- "Worm gear. An important point is that its minimum load capacity should be from 300 kg, and the gear ratio should be 60 kg.
- A steel plate 1 cm thick. If you have an old machine designed for working with metal, you can take it from there (there won’t be any special problems, you can get the plate with your own hands, without outside help).
- A few bolts.
- 2 pieces of strong iron chains (you should not take chains with thin links). Products with a diameter of about 2-3 cm are best suited.
- Hook.
- Five-millimeter steel cable.
- 2 keys of different diameters, star-shaped (you can get them with your own hands from a regular moped).
Assembly instructions
The process of assembling and installing the lift is quite simple:
- Attach steel corners to opposite walls so that the car hood is located under them.
- Install a steel plate on the corners of the future lift and secure it with 8 M8 bolts. Due to the fact that there will be no direct connection between the plate and the corners, it can be moved relative to the engine.
- Install a “worm” gearbox on the stove with your own hands.
- Secure the larger diameter key to the gearbox drive shaft.
- Make a hole in the right place on the stove, thread a chain through it and close it into a ring.
- Install a smaller diameter key on the gearbox output shaft.
- Make 2 more holes in the lift plate.
- Pass the second chain through the holes. Throw one end over a smaller dowel, and install a hook on the other with your own hands.
That's all. The do-it-yourself lift is ready.

In order for the elevator assembly to be completed correctly and without unnecessary costs, you should purchase the necessary materials and high-quality tools.
The following is the order of work:
- Manufacturing of the platform.
- A metal elevator is welded onto the pulley.
- Rubberized wheels are attached to the platform.
- Guides for the elevator are made from metal corners.
- A beam is attached to the highest point of the mechanism.
- The pulley can be welded between two walls or mounted in concrete.
- The beam must be parallel to the floor, which is very important.
- A winch or hoist is attached to the beam.
- The cabin and platform are secured.
Alternatively, the elevator can be made as follows:
Cellar elevator
- The frame for moving the lifting cage is assembled from metal steel corners by welding.
- The lifting cage consists of duralumin corners with four shelves measuring 300x300 millimeters. The height of the cage is 1.7 meters. Two pulleys are attached to its lower part, with a cable passed through them.
- The cage is lifted by winding a steel cable onto a drum, which is driven by a single-phase electric motor with a power of 1000 W, with a shaft rotation speed of 1400 rpm.
- The cage lowers under its own weight, due to the reeling of the cable from the drum when the motor rotates in reverse.
- The cage frame is installed on a light foundation and attached to the basement wall.
- The drum is connected to the electric motor through a gearbox with a gear ratio of 1:88 and a finger clutch, which ensures smooth movement of the drum during starting and stopping the engine.
- The band brake provides braking for the lifting device.
- When the electric motor is turned on, voltage is supplied to the electromagnet, which is connected to the brake device by a lever.
- When the engine stops, the electromagnet is de-energized and the cage stops.
What other homemade elevators for basements exist can be seen in the video.
