How to choose the right color of corrugated sheeting for the roof and fence

Today, metal profiled sheets are one of the most popular building materials. The range of corrugated sheets produced is simply enormous. It differs in the thickness of the metal of the original workpiece, the shape of the profile, the height of the wave or trapezoid, as well as in the protective and decorative coating applied to its surface.

Any profiled sheet is made of high quality galvanized steel. The zinc layer itself provides sufficiently reliable protection of the metal from corrosion; its thickness is sufficient to protect the profiled sheet from minor mechanical damage. But in addition to the zinc coating, a layer of special paint or polymer is additionally applied to modern corrugated sheeting.

These coatings create additional protection and significantly increase the service life of the profiled sheet. If the service life of galvanized corrugated sheeting is 20-30 years, then a profiled sheet with additional coating can be used for up to 50 years.

Modern corrugated sheet - RAL colors of the most common shades

It is very important that in addition to high protective properties, polymer coatings of corrugated sheets can have almost any color. This significantly expands the possibilities of using this material, allowing it to be used to implement the most original design solutions.

Therefore, modern profiled sheet is not only a durable and reliable material, it has high decorative properties and is aesthetically very attractive.

Composition and properties of profiled sheets

Metal corrugated sheets are one of the most popular building materials today. There are a great many varieties of it. The materials differ in shape, wave or trapezoid height, in the thickness of the original metal blank , and also in the color of the protective and decorative coating applied to the surface.

The profiled sheet is made from high quality galvanized steel. The zinc layer present on it provides reliable protection of the metal from corrosion, and also, due to its thickness, from minor mechanical damage. In addition, a special paint or polymer is additionally applied to it.

The coating creates additional protection and significantly extends the service life of the corrugated sheet. If ordinary galvanized corrugated sheeting without special coating lasts 20-30 years, then coated corrugated sheeting can last about 50 years.

In addition to excellent protective properties, the polymer coating of the corrugated sheet can have almost any color. The most original design solutions become a reality thanks to the use of this material.

Modern corrugated sheeting combines excellent decorative qualities , as well as strength and durability.

What do you need to know when choosing a color for a corrugated fence?

All manufacturers who produce metal, from which corrugated sheeting is subsequently made, adhere to one single color table. This table is called “RAL color table”.

I present this table below. To enlarge it, click on the picture.

Thus, by inventing such a table, the issue of controversial situations between customers and manufacturers disappeared. Now customers have the opportunity to clearly formulate their order, and the paint manufacturer has confidence that they are producing exactly what the consumer needs. Brilliant

The main types of corrugated sheets that generally exist are demonstrated in this video:

Types of coatings

There are several types of polymer coating. One of the most durable is plastisol. Its thickness is 200 microns, and it has excellent anti-corrosion characteristics. If, for example, a corrugated sheet is exposed to active influence of external environmental factors, then this polymer coating should be chosen. True , the palette will not be very diverse, limited only to black, white, burgundy and cream colors.

In total, the corrugated sheet consists of four layers:

  1. Galvanized corrugated sheeting.
  2. Passivating layer.
  3. Primer layer (5−10 microns).
  4. Polymer coating with layer thickness from 25 to 100 microns for various coatings. The exceptions are enamel, varnish (10-12 microns for one-sided coating) and polymer coating (25-200 microns for double-sided coating).

Following plastisol is polyester or polyester paint. It is also extremely popular among consumers. There is a wide variety of colors present here. The coating thickness is 25 microns for a glossy finish and 35 for a matte finish.

Next on the list are acrylic paints (PVDF) - their coating thickness ranges from 20 to 40 microns. The excellent anti-corrosion qualities of PVDF are highly appreciated by customers, giving them a leading position in the market.

And finally, Pural (polyurethane-polyamide paint), which is more expensive than profiled sheets with polyester paint.

Corrugated sheet coloring options

To give the corrugated sheet the necessary characteristics, such as additional strength and corrosion protection, it is coated with a polymer or paint protective layer. In addition to all these properties there is an original color scheme. According to the nature of the applied coloring, metal profiles are distinguished:

  1. Sheet painted only from the front surface. Intended for structures that are exposed to unfavorable conditions on only one side. For example, the roof of a building facade. A certain color scheme is applied to such corrugated sheeting from the “face”, while the back side remains gray.
  2. In the second case, the sheet is painted the same color on both sides. Profiled sheets for fences and other barriers are painted in this way, as a result of which it is possible to achieve an aesthetic appearance on both sides.
  3. The third option is double-sided painting, which can be not only of different colors, but also with different types of coating. This type of material is used on objects where various factors influence on both sides. In this case, the front surface must have an aesthetic appearance. One example of the use of such a profiled sheet is the construction of garage walls.

RAL

Before purchasing corrugated sheeting with a color coating, you will need to determine the number of the shade you are interested in. To designate exact colors, RAL, the German standard, is most often used. This catalog was developed in 1927 and is used worldwide in market and production sectors where the selection of colors is very important - extremely clear. Each shade is marked on a 4-digit scale. The first accounting number indicates the base color group:

  • unit - yellow,
  • deuce - orange,
  • three - red,
  • and further by numbering respectively: purple, blue, green, gray, brown,
  • and nine closes the list: black/white.

The designated color of the RAL sheet allows manufacturers to carefully select the color range, for example, for accompanying fasteners and other building materials: sidings, panels, various varnishes/paints.

In the RAL scale for generating corrugated sheet colors, colors are indicated not only by numerical parameters, but also by name, which is common for most and is designated under the number 6005.

Today, many design solutions for modern premises are distinguished by high aesthetics in execution, harmonious combinations of the color scheme of the facade with the surrounding buildings. Modern processing involves the use of various accessories in the facade cladding, and they also require color adjustment. And, it would seem, such a banal thing as a fence, also now, as a rule, cannot be done without a selection of paints.

Color Standards

Profiled sheets, like other building materials, undergo standardization regulated by certain regulatory documents. The color range of the corrugated sheet is also subject to standardization. Colors and shades are presented in a wide palette, created on the basis of three generally accepted global standards:

  • RAL is a European standard, represented by a wide range of shades, having 4 digits in the code.
  • RR is a Finnish standard, the designation of which has 2 or 3 digits.
  • HPS is an English standard that has the smallest number of colors in its palette. Its code consists of 4 numbers and 1 letter, which is not always present.
  • PRELA is a Swedish standard.

The most popular coding is RAL. The color scheme along with the markings is indicated on cards or tables that the seller provides to the client. The color of the metal profile includes more than a thousand positions and is divided into 9 main ones.

In addition, there are the following RAL color catalogs:

  • Classic - this scale was first developed in 1927, when the RAL standard was adopted. It is represented by 210 shades, where the first number indicates the series: 1 - yellow shades; 2 - orange, 3 - red, 4 - purple, 5 - blue, 6 - green, 7 - gray, 8 - brown; 9 - black and white.
  • Design is a more advanced version of the RAL standard. It was developed in 1993, and initially it contained 1625 shades and colors in its palette. Periodically replenished, today it has 1688 shades, which are indicated by seven-digit digital codes.
  • Effect is represented mostly by industrial colors, of which there are 490. Of these, 420 are matte and 70 are glossy. They are designated by a four-digit index and the letter M, which means metallic.
  • Digital was developed in 1995 and is an analogue of RAL Design. It was created to work with computer design programs and computer-aided design (CAD) systems.

Profiled sheets coated with Printech polymer coating have recently enjoyed particular popularity and demand. Using offset technology, a design is applied to a galvanized sheet. It imitates natural wood: log, naive, pine wood (golden and stained oak, alpine pine). There are also types of corrugated sheeting, decorated with stone and brickwork, as well as imitating military camouflage. However, this coating option does not always combine well with other materials and can become boring very quickly.

Polyester according to the RAL standard is most often used as a coating for corrugated sheets. In addition, PRISMA coating (produced by the Corus concern), produced in original color palettes with a metallic effect, is in great demand.

Profiled sheet for fence

As mentioned above, there is a profiled sheet that is painted on both sides. It is an architectural decorative element of the overall building. The colors of corrugated fences are very diverse, which makes it possible to combine it into one ensemble with the roof and facade.

Light colors, as you know, have the property of visually expanding space, while dark colors, on the contrary, reduce it and make it less catchy.

When choosing a profiled sheet for a fence, many people prefer green, as it fits very organically into the landscape design and harmonizes with the background of green spaces. Do not forget that the fence should not stand out from the overall color composition and design of the structure. The most popular and sought-after shades are brown, burgundy, green, blue and gray. They are compatible with almost all facade materials.

Colors such as yellow and red are quite risky to use when decorating a fence - they are too bright and catchy, they are difficult to combine with other shades and can create contrasts.

A fence made of galvanized profiled sheets is noticeably inferior in its characteristics to a painted one. Colored corrugated sheets are beautiful, practical and durable. These factors are decisive in construction and design.

Choosing the color of the fence

When choosing the color of a corrugated sheet for a fence, take into account 7 rules:

  1. to match the roof tone of the main building on the site, taking into account generally accepted color palette combinations;
  2. to match the facade design of the house, according to the contrasting or harmonious principle of choice;
  3. in the style of a specific design chosen for the decoration of the building (classic - light colors, oriental - dark, high-tech - bright or catchy colors);
  4. match the color of the pillars on the front side (sheets are selected according to a harmonious or contrasting principle);
  5. to match the surrounding landscape, emphasizing the pond or merging with the green garden;
  6. the need to visually increase or decrease the space (light colors expand the estate, dark colors make the yard small and cozy).

For wooden fencing

Acrylic or multi-component coatings are better suited for decorating a wooden fence.

  • Acrylic is resistant to temperature conditions and can withstand even ultra-low temperatures. The paint is easy to apply and looks impressive against the backdrop of green trees or a well-kept garden.
  • The multi-component coating is resistant to humidity and weathering. With regular touch-up, the service life of acrylic can be significantly extended, guaranteeing a well-groomed appearance of the area for many years.
  • The varnish coating increases the life of the paint and improves the appearance of the surface, giving a glossy shine. The varnish with stain easily penetrates into the wood, emphasizing the beauty of the internal structure. Characterized by resistance to high or low temperatures, rain, ice, snow.

By covering a wooden fence with new dyes, you can be sure of the wood’s decent condition and attractive appearance for 10-15 years.

For a fence made of corrugated sheets

An old, worn-out fence can be easily restored by applying a special coating. For this purpose, special paint application technologies are used:

  1. electrostatic - used for painting wavy or slightly corrugated surfaces;
  2. powder - durable, withstands up to -60 or +150, applied in a special heat chamber;
  3. pneumatic painting - suitable for painting professional sheets yourself;
  4. airless - used for flat surfaces.

What color of metal profile to choose for a fence

The variety of colors used to paint corrugated boards offer a choice of shades and are easy to combine with each other. Modern paints are used to create original design options for surface decoration with your own hands.

Choosing the right color for a fence is not easy, since it takes into account:

  • features of landscape design;
  • feature of the surrounding nature;
  • level of damage to the fence;
  • tastes or preferences of the owners;
  • atmospheric exposure;
  • the prevailing temperature in a particular area;
  • features of the coloring composition;
  • quality of material.

Using colored corrugated board to decorate a fence, it is possible to create an original design on a private plot that will delight owners or passers-by with its beauty and well-groomed appearance for many years.

Which color scheme should I choose?

Dark green and dark brown tones are preferred near roads. This solution is caused by frequent heavy blockages. For dachas and suburban areas, the use of blue and gray paints in all their diversity is recommended. Dark red colors are increasingly in demand. Metallic colors are also constantly gaining popularity; traditionally it competes with imitation:

  • stone;
  • bricks;
  • different types of wood.

The situation is different with the selection of roofing material. Most often, this selection is entrusted to qualified experts. But if you need to choose a roof covering yourself, you need to pay attention to important points:

  • it is impossible to disturb the harmony with the colors of other elements of the house, gables, windows, ventilation pipes;
  • architectural style should be emphasized;
  • despite the organic coloring, the roof cannot be masked, it should not be lost from view;
  • if the house is made of decorative brick or natural stone, a dark red top is needed;
  • The change in color depending on the distance and observation conditions (primarily natural and artificial light) is very significant.

Green color fits perfectly into an environment of natural or garden greenery. Gray and white colors are best suited for decorating balconies and facades, rather than roofs.

Despite the unexpectedness and unusualness of black, it combines perfectly with light colors. Dachas are often crowned with brown leaves.

Roof covering

Today, protective and decorative coatings are available in matte and glossy versions, and various color solutions allow you to realize the most daring design ideas.

The most popular colors of roofing sheeting are:

  • polyester according to RAL 3005, 5002, 3011 and 9014;
  • plastisol according to RAL 1015 and 9010, P 362;
  • prism with standard markings 1015, 5005, 305, 7024 and according to RAL Aurora, Helios and Atlantis.

Corrugated roofing can be of any color, but it must be remembered that any building must fit harmoniously into the surrounding space and not create overly bright and contrasting spots. In addition, the color should be practical, despite the fact that the corrugated sheet is very easy to care for. It is enough to wash the product under running water, even without using detergent. However, it is not recommended to use white material for roof cladding. From a practical point of view, it is the least suitable, since dirty stains and dust will be too noticeable on such a coating.

When selecting colored corrugated sheets, you should be guided by a number of rules. The color of the roof is matched to the shade of the façade of the building, and the color of the walls, if there is a roofing covering, is matched to the color of the roof. The color of the roofing should go well with the facade of the building, the color of the windows, pediment, frame and all other elements. In addition, the building must be in harmony with nearby buildings.

In order not to stand out as a bright spot against the general background and at the same time not to get lost among the green spaces, it is necessary to take into account the compatibility of the most popular colors and shades:

  • gray color goes well with crimson, lilac and purple;
  • red is ideal for all shades of blue, gray and green;
  • Beige, dark blue and black look good with burgundy;
  • scarlet color harmonizes with light blue and green;
  • raspberry - with gray and mauve;
  • yellow - with blue, violet, and green;
  • blue echoes sandy shades, as well as yellow and orange;
  • orange goes harmoniously with pale blue, purple and bright blue;
  • purple - with different shades of green;
  • brown goes with red, orange and beige tones;
  • hot pink - all sorts of shades of blue;
  • pale pink - light green, blue and lilac.

Additional painting

In some cases, additional painting of the profiled sheet may be required. The reasons for this may be:

  1. Scratches and minor damage that appeared during transportation.
  2. Extending the service life of profiled sheets.
  3. Need to update faded paint.
  4. The desire to change the color for aesthetic reasons or to change the design solution.

There are five painting technologies:

  1. Electrostatic - suitable for painting sheets with a slightly corrugated or wavy surface.
  2. Powder is one of the most durable. It is heat-resistant: it can withstand from minus 60 to plus 150 degrees, but a heat chamber is required.
  3. Pneumatic - characterized by high paint consumption. Suitable for use at home.
  4. Airless - great for flat surfaces.

It should be noted that on the monitor screen, when compared with paper media, the color palette of corrugated sheets is slightly different, so preference should be given to lighter tones. It is recommended to use a color compatibility table.

Colored profiled sheet is a modern universal solution for finishing roofs, cladding facades of residential and industrial buildings, erecting fences, etc. It has excellent technical and aesthetic characteristics that will not leave even the most demanding buyer indifferent.

Popular colors of corrugated sheets

Among the huge palette of profiled sheets, some colors are in particular demand among consumers. The most popular of them:

  1. Light colors are suitable for decorating facades and balconies. Sometimes they are used for fencing.
  2. Blue color is usually used for fencing and finishing the facades of non-residential buildings.
  3. A black roof combined with white walls looks very impressive.
  4. Brown color is used for country roofs and fences.
  5. The dark red roof gives the building sophistication and nobility.

This is interesting: the weight of the profiled sheet is MP 20.

Colored corrugated sheet is a modern universal material suitable for finishing roofs, erecting fences, and decorating facades. It has excellent technical and aesthetic qualities. The right choice of color will allow any building to blend harmoniously into its environment.
