Prevention and regular maintenance for autonomous sewage systems

Despite the fact that self-service of autonomous sewers does not take much time, many homeowners prefer to order septic tank service from service companies specializing in these services. Let's consider the maintenance of a septic tank like Unilos Astra 5. This is a very small septic tank designed for processing waste from a family of up to 5 people with a fairly economical use of water resources. Engaging third-party resources for its maintenance is not economically justified due to the small amount of work and the high cost of calling service specialists. After watching the training video, you will be able to fully understand how exactly the maintenance of an autonomous system such as Unilos Astra takes place.

Where to start service work?

To begin with, when starting prevention, you should deal with the toggle switches and turn off the power to the Unilos Astra. Remove the protective cover. In the sealed compartment with the compressor you will see a manual control panel. The green switch controls the operation of the compressor. Move it to position 0. Also move the black button responsible for power to position 0 and move the red button responsible for manual control of the station to position 1.

Now is the time to take a break and prepare the tools for further work. The sludge needs to settle for pumping to be as efficient as possible. You will need a bucket, gloves, screwdrivers.

Activated sludge is a very useful thing. The designers of Unilos Astra very cleverly came up with the idea of pumping the remaining sludge from the settling tank into the receiving chamber. This speeds up waste cleanup work. Now you need to remove the hose with which the remaining sludge is pumped. To avoid breaking the plug, use a Phillips screwdriver to loosen it and remove the plug.

Sludge is pumped out automatically. Place the end of the hose in the bucket and turn the green switch to position 1. When the bucket is full, turn off the compressor by turning the green switch back to 0. Pump out at least half of the sludge by pouring the contents of the bucket into a compost bin or compost pit. When carrying out cleanup work in late autumn, there will be nothing terrible if you splash sludge onto lawns, flower beds or feed ornamental bushes.

After completing the pumping procedure, return the Unilos Astra station to automatic mode. To do this, switch the green button to 1, the red and black button to 0.

How is UNILOS Astra 5 service performed?

To perform service work, you will need to connect to sources of water supply and electricity, and the septic tank must be connected to the electrical network.

Pumping sludge from the stabilizer.

To carry out the work, it is necessary to turn off the compressor, this will help the sludge settle to the bottom of the chamber. After this, a drainage pump is lowered to the bottom of the chamber and 100% of the sludge mixture is pumped out, after which the container is filled with clean water to the previous level. This method allows you to remove sludge more efficiently compared to a standard pump, and this procedure will need to be performed no more than once every six months.

Pumping sludge from an aeration tank.

During service maintenance Unilos Astra 5

The sludge concentration in the aeration tank is checked and if it is high, the container is emptied by 1/3 and then filled with water. There are also cases when it is necessary to remove the cap from the sludge mechanically. It is imperative to remove non-degradable elements from the septic tank.

Flushing the main pump and coarse filter.

In order to remove the mamut pump from the coarse fraction filter, it is disconnected from the air pipes and fastenings on the housing. When removed, the tubes and pipe are washed and accumulated waste is removed. Washing circulation and recirculation pumps is carried out by analogy.

Cleaning the hair trap and the walls of the septic tank.

A hair catcher is installed on a clip in the aeration tank; it must be cleaned during each service of Unilos Astra 5

. Hair that gets into the septic tank accumulates on it. In addition to the components, it is necessary to clean the walls inside the septic tank. This can be done with water pressure or a brush. At sub-zero temperatures, it is not recommended to use high-pressure washers, as this can lead to damage to the fasteners inside the septic tank, which are made of plastic and become brittle when the temperature changes.

Septic tank compressor, blower.

The compressor for the Unilos septic tank needs to be cleaned. To do this, you need to remove the cover, remove the filter and wash it, and then install it back. The Astra septic tank compressor lasts for 5 years or more; as a rule, its membranes wear out, but often replacement occurs after water gets into it due to flooding. You can choose the right model of compressor for a septic tank in (for a model for 5 people, or is suitable).

Maintenance of Unilos Astra 5 includes checking and cleaning of jets and injectors. These elements are exposed to an aggressive environment and often become clogged and oxidized, which leads to failure of certain components.

After all elements are cleaned and installed in place, the forward and reverse phases are checked using switches on the control unit.

UNILOS service includes:

  • Diagnostics of operation with checking the correctness of switching phases of operation;
  • Pumping out inert sludge, followed by washing the chamber and filling it with water;
  • Pumping out part of the water from the secondary settling tank with a high sludge content and then filling it with water;
  • Dismantling and washing of the coarse filter and airlifts;
  • Washing the hair trap and grease trap;
  • Removing non-degradable elements from chambers;
  • Cleaning the walls of a septic tank with water pressure;
  • Checking the compressor for a septic tank;
  • Cleaning the compressor filter and checking the air ducts;
  • Cleaning the forced release chamber (if equipped).
  • Identifying and eliminating problems in the operation of the septic tank (materials and replacement labor are paid separately).

The most common reason for a station overflowing is a clogged coarse filter and a mamut pump placed in it. These nodes become clogged with non-degradable materials, such as hair. In order to prevent such situations from arising, do not forget that the septic tank must be cleaned. We also remind you that the autonomous sewage system must operate uninterruptedly; under no circumstances should it be disconnected from the electricity supply.

It is recommended to do routine maintenance of an autonomous sewer system at above-zero temperatures, since with the onset of frost, the plastic elements inside the housing become prickly. Also, when cold weather sets in, there is a problem with the supply of clean water to fill the container and wash it.

Preventative work on cleaning the compressor air filter

Turn off the power to the Unilos Astra station, use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the compressor cover by unscrewing the bolt. The filter needs to be removed, washed and dried. It is highly undesirable to use the station during maintenance work.

Actually, this is all preventive work to clean the autonomous sewer system. If you wish, you can wash the walls and partitions with a hose. But this is completely unnecessary and will only lead to dirt splashing around. The hair catcher, which looks like a brush, must also be cleaned. In fact, long hair poses the main danger of drain clogs. Therefore, it is better to install special grates to catch hair in shower and bathtub drains.

UNILOS Service

Maintenance of UNILOS Astra
is carried out according to the manufacturer's regulations once every 3 months (for intensive living); in fact, it is recommended to perform work once every 6 months. The UNILOS Astra septic tank is reliable both in terms of wastewater treatment and design features. This autonomous sewage system does not require constant monitoring, but still you should not neglect the maintenance of the Astra septic tank. In the absence of work on pumping out “dead sludge” and washing components, there is a high probability of flooding of the station with damage to electrical components (compressor, control unit).

If the cleaning of the Astra septic tank is entrusted to our organization, then we will offer you to conclude an annual service agreement, or we can also respond to your needs one-time. When our company performs regular maintenance of your station, we provide a discount on the cost of the work.

Maintenance and repair of septic tanks "Unilos"

In order to increase the efficiency of the treatment plant and to avoid its possible repairs, it is necessary to carry out periodic maintenance. It can be done with your own hands. But if such actions cause you difficulties, then just enter a query in the search bar “repair and maintenance of septic tanks”, and a large list of specialists will allow you to choose the most acceptable one by region and price.

So, what does the Astra septic tank maintenance principle include:

  • Periodic inspection and diagnostics of the electrical part of the tank. To do this, during maintenance, it is enough to open the hatch of the cleaning system and make sure that the electrical components are working, creating a characteristic light hum.
  • Visual inspection of the internal chambers of the tank. This needs to be done in order to understand how full the septic tank is. If its chambers are overfilled, it means that either the equipment model was chosen incorrectly for the volume of wastewater in your area, or the system requires cleaning and repair of filter components.
  • A visual inspection of all hoses and tubes for damage should also be carried out during maintenance.
  • If the third chamber (secondary settling tank) is overfilled, then here you can carry out minor repairs yourself. Most likely the grease trap is clogged. It needs to be washed and reinstalled.
  • If the first chamber is full, then repairs and maintenance will consist of removing large debris from it (rags, personal hygiene items, toilet paper).

Important: such inclusions should not enter the wastewater treatment system.

  • It is also worth inspecting the second chamber (aeration tank). If the tank is full, then it is also worth removing excess debris during maintenance and repairs. Here, during maintenance, the hair catcher is also cleaned.
  • When the visual inspection during maintenance is completed, you can begin to finely wash all filters. To do this, you need to remove the coarse filter and airlift from the first settling tank and rinse them thoroughly. After this, we install everything in the reverse order, observing the principle of the initial installation. You also need to inspect all membranes and nozzles and, if necessary, rinse them too.
  • Also, when carrying out maintenance and minor repairs of the station, it is necessary to pump out the accumulated sludge once a quarter. For this purpose, the system has a special pump. If you have delayed pumping or about six months have already passed, then a more powerful drainage pump will be required to pump out the sludge.

Important: the built-in pump for pumping out sludge can become clogged if it is not used for 3-4 months. This is why it is necessary to switch to drainage equipment if the station has not been cleaned for about 6 months or more.

  • After pumping out the sludge, the tank must be filled with clean water. The principle of such service is mandatory.
  • Also, in order to avoid complex repairs of the Astra septic tank, you need to change all the membranes in the septic tank compressor once every two years.
  • Once every five years, all components need to be replaced.

Important: if private sewerage is used seasonally, then the principle of its conservation must be observed. This can be handled by professionals who offer their services. In addition, if you do not know where to place the waste sludge, then these same specialists will transport it to special places designated for this purpose.

Maintenance of Unilos Astra is an important aspect for the uninterrupted functioning of an autonomous sewage system. To ensure that operation does not bring unnecessary hassle and problems, it is worth regularly monitoring the condition of the station. You can clean and pump out yourself. The procedures take a little time.

Installation

Installation instructions for Unilos Astra 3 begin with determining its location. Ideally, the sewer line should be straight without bends, this way you can save money on purchasing inspection wells. The distance from the building should be about five meters.

The installation of this station consists of several steps.

Pit preparation

If the soil allows, then all preparatory work for arranging the pit can be done manually. This way you can save money and preserve the original landscape design. If work is carried out on rocky terrain or any other difficult-to-process soil, it is necessary to call specialized equipment.

Digging a pit

The depth of the pit depends on the location of the sewer line. For the Astra 3 septic tank, the depth must be at least 230 cm. The pipes that are supplied to the septic tank must be no deeper than 0.6 meters. The pit should be 0.5 meters wider than the dimensions of the septic tank. After the trench has been dug, it is necessary to level and compact its bottom.

There should be no stones or loose soil under the structure. The bottom of the pit must be covered with a layer of sand of 0.25 meters. The depth of the structure should be 0.15 meters greater than the dimensions of the device, taking into account the embankment.

Preparing the supply trench

The width of this trench should be about 50 cm and the depth 0.6 meters. These dimensions should be sufficient to arrange a sand cushion and maintain the required slope.

Supply trench

Its dimensions depend on the modification of the installed structure. If the autonomous sewer system is equipped with a drainage pump to remove recycled liquid, it is necessary to maintain a distance of 7 cm from the septic tank itself to the point of water release. If the pump is not present in the cleaning system, then this trench is arranged in the same way as for the supply line. It extends from the outlet of the septic tank to the filter platform.

Lowering the septic tank into the trench

This operation will require four people. The installation must be tied with ropes and placed near the hole in a horizontal position, and then carefully lowered down.

Descent of the septic tank into the pit

Septic tank leveling

After the structure has been laid in the pit, work on its installation should begin using a building level. The level must be set perfectly, the slope must be zero.

After this, the containers must be filled 50% with liquid and the structure must be sprinkled with sand on all sides up to the level of the pipeline inlet.

Installation of supply pipeline

Sand should be poured into the trench and compacted tightly. The thickness of the resulting pillow should be at least 0.1 meters. When installing pipes, a slope of 2% should be maintained.

Brown pipes are perfect for these purposes. Such products are much stronger than others, and therefore are not subject to mechanical stress from the soil. The diameter of these pipes should be 11 cm. The pipe coming out of the base of the building must be connected using a bend.

It is important to know! During sewer installation, turns should be made by 15-45 degrees. If the length of the line is more than 15 meters, and the angles of rotation reach 90 degrees, inspection wells must be installed to eliminate possible blockages.

Dple needs to do some insulation. To do this, you need to lay insulation along the length of the line. You need to use foamed polyethylene. After laying the pipeline is completed, it should be covered with sand and compacted.

Installation of supply pipe

At each stage of installation it is necessary to control the angle of inclination. This is a condition for normal transportation of liquid along the line without clogging.

Electrical cable installation

When laying sand, you need to leave room for the cable above the pipes. It must be laid loosely so that it does not tear if the soil moves. After this procedure, the trench must be covered with earth.

Connecting the system to the supply pipeline

The process is carried out through a polyethylene pipe. The junction of the tubes and the wall of the station must be treated with a construction hairdryer to ensure tightness.

Organization of wastewater disposal

Installation of pipes is carried out in the same way as installation of the supply system. A concrete well can be used to construct a wastewater receiver.

It is necessary to lay the pipeline on a sandy base in the main line from the outlet pipe with a diameter of 11 cm. Then you need to cut in the ring and seal it with a waterproof substance.

Wastewater disposal

At the same stage you need to install the pump. After all work is completed, the trench should be covered with a layer of sand, and then with the remaining earth.

If the plans include the installation of a storage tank, then it must be carried out in exactly the same way as the installation of the structure itself.
