Hello everyone! I would like to present to you an unusual wood burner made from a high-voltage transformer from a microwave oven. Nowadays it is very easy to find a faulty microwave. As a rule, they fail electronically and their transformer almost always works.

But I want to immediately warn you about safety precautions. We will work with mains voltage, so strictly adhere to safety regulations. And the transformer itself produces about 3,000-5,000 volts with a current of 700 mA. At 10-15 mA alternating current, a person will not be able to release the conductor himself, and at 100 mA, cardiac fibrillation occurs and after 2-3 seconds. breathing stops. I warned you. This is not a joke! If you are not familiar with electricity, it is better to call a knowledgeable person. I am not responsible for the consequences! I warned!

Now let's look at the transformer itself. It has three windings. The primary one is wound with a thicker wire and it is connected to a 220V network. The next winding consists of the thickest wire and contains several turns. This is the power supply for the magnetron. We don't need it and the wires can be bitten off. The last winding is high voltage. She is always isolated. And if there are two terminals on the network winding, then on the high-voltage winding one end is brought out to the terminal, the other goes to the transformer body.

It is with this winding that we will burn the tree. Patterns in the form of lightning will appear on it. These are the so-called Lichtenberg figures or patterns. I drilled two holes in it and fastened it with small screws. I didn't even cut the thread. I haven’t specifically installed various toggle switches yet for security reasons. To turn on the burner, you need to step away and insert the plug into the network. It is safe. Wait until the process takes place, unplug the wiki from the socket and you are guaranteed to have a broken circuit.

Regarding the high-voltage part, everything is also simple. We connect one wire to the winding terminal, and screw the other to the transformer body. Everything about electrical.

To use the device safely, you need a housing. I couldn’t think of anything better than making a body from laminate scraps. I took 2-2.5 teaspoons for half a 0.5 liter jar. I coated it with a regular paint brush. Try to leave a centimeter of dry wood around the edges. the current will flow through the least resistance. The solution accumulates at the corners and its thickness is greater, so the current will flow along the edge and the design will not work out. If the wood strongly absorbs moisture and nothing happens when you turn it on, then you need to apply more solution, naturally with the device turned off. After applying the solution, you can plug the power plug into an outlet. Smoldering discharges will begin to spread through the tree, similar to a river of lava. The flow of current burns the wood and the same Lichtenberg patterns remain on it. It's quite nice, although it doesn't smell very good and produces a lot of smoke. Therefore, it is better to work outdoors. After creating the design, you can twist one or two self-tapping screws to other places if the wood is large. This way you can control the process a little. While I was typing the text, the thought came to me that I could roughly draw a few lines with a simple pencil along which the pattern would go. When finished, clean the wood with a soft wire brush under running water. This is necessary to remove the coal that forms after the wood burns out. And running water prevents the wood from being contaminated by the same coal. Otherwise you will smear black all over the wood.
