Evaluation of all types and which toilet flush is better

  • Choosing a toilet

After the renovation is completed, the choice of plumbing fixtures is a fairly important issue. It’s very good when the bathtub and toilet are decorated in the same style, and it will be even better if all the equipment is from the same manufacturer. If choosing a bathtub is quite easy, then when choosing a toilet, we often wonder which toilet outlet is better.

For residents of city apartments, there is no choice, since you will have to purchase the model that fits the sewer system. If you are the happy owner of a plot of land and have decided to build your house on it, then even at the planning stage you can provide a sewerage structure for connecting a toilet. In this case, the choice is entirely yours.

Options, shapes and modifications of toilets:

The compact toilet
is the most common version of the toilet.
Combined with a tank. This model is the most popular for a reason - it’s about saving space and budget cost. A toilet with a separate tank
- these used to be installed everywhere in the USSR. Now they are also presented on the market, in two versions:

  • Toilets with installed cistern and wall-hung toilet
. This system allows you to create harmony in interior design and compactly place plumbing fixtures in the room

Toilet materials

Based on the material used, models are divided into:

Stainless steel

These models are highly durable and resistant to mechanical damage. This anti-vandal option is most often used in public bathrooms.

Porcelain

This is the optimal toilet material. It has fine porosity, which does not allow it to absorb much moisture. As a result, urinary stone accumulates on the toilet much more slowly, and the product itself retains its original appearance longer.

Faience

A more economical option compared to porcelain, but less practical. Earthenware has a more porous structure and greater water absorption.

Plastic

Only bio- and portable toilets are made from plastic.

It is worth noting that ceramics is a general name for plumbing material. Ceramic toilets are divided into porcelain and earthenware.

Toilets are also divided into flush release options:

Advice:

Before purchasing a toilet, you need to accurately determine the following: a toilet with which flush outlet option will suit you.

  1. If you want to install the toilet yourself, then inspect the outlet.
  2. If you want to call a master plumber in Katerinburg
, then invite him to make a diagnosis, and then buy a toilet.
  3. If you previously had a toilet with a 45 degree outlet, then you need to buy a new toilet with the same outlet. Because if you buy a toilet with direct release, then its installation will become more complicated ,
and the distance by which the installed new toilet will move away from the
    sewer pipe
    will
    be enormous
    .

Installation Rules

Usually, before installation, a diagram or drawing of the proposed plumbing option is studied, since adapters may be needed to connect the inappropriate pipe to the manifold.

There is a certain set of rules that would be a good idea to follow when installing a toilet. They are as follows.

  1. The discharge must correspond to the receiving capabilities of the sewerage approaches.
  2. When using additional connecting devices, you should clearly know the diameter of the pipe.
  3. The outlet pipe is installed at a slight slope.
  4. It is necessary to take a responsible approach to sealing joints; the service life of the plumbing fixtures before possible leaks will depend on them. In addition, poorly treated joints can allow odors and gases to escape from the manifold.
  5. When installing the outlet, you should not make sharp turns of 90 degrees; such a transfer can lead to congestion in the future. It is better to make several transitional bends at an angle, for example, 45 degrees.

Which edition should I buy a toilet with?

Wario Issue

» is universal and can be installed on any sewerage connection option. In my selection of toilets, this is the Sanita “Lux” model.

For sewerage coming out of the wall horizontally, a toilet with direct outlet or “Vario” is required.

This photo shows that you need a toilet with an oblique outlet at 45 degrees. "Vario" is also suitable.

When the sewer outlet is in the floor, "Vario" will do, but everything needs to be measured and provided for.

Connection to sewerage

As you probably guessed, the method of connecting the toilet to the sewer depends on the type of its outlet.

In order to connect a toilet with a horizontal and oblique outlet, you will need a corrugation or cuff, as well as sealant. When the outlet of the device is located at the same level as the sewer inlet without any displacement, you will need a cuff to connect the outlet to the sewer pipe. If the plumbing fixture is deviated from the sewer inlet even by the shortest distance, then the connection work should be done using corrugation.

So, to connect, you will need to place the toilet in the right place and check the coincidence of the sewer outlet and outlet. Based on this, we select the necessary equipment to connect. To avoid making mistakes when making connections, it is necessary to mark the area where the toilet is installed on the floor. The corrugation or cuff must be treated with sealant. Next, we connect the corrugation or cuff with the sewer hole and put the toilet in place, after which we attach the outlet with special fasteners. After this, you need to carefully secure everything and check the connections for leaks.

Types of flush toilets:

Regular “ Vertical
” - this photo shows the area where the water is flushed (a Russian-made toilet is the most splashy and unstable in its operation, God forbid you take it). The rest of the space will need to be washed with detergent every 3 days to avoid smell and flies. The disadvantages are obvious - it is washed off only from one back wall.

Circular flush
” - this bowl has holes around the perimeter through which water evenly irrigates the entire internal surface of the toilet, and a method is also implemented in which directed flows are used during flushing, which swirl and create the same effect.

Advice:

When installing this toilet, a perfectly horizontal platform is required, otherwise water will
flow unevenly from the holes or
the flow directions will be different. Where there is a greater slope, there will be an excess.

Directed flow
” - used for any type of bowl. Toilets equipped with this type of flush flush perfectly.

We monitor the budget for future purchases:

It’s better to think a little here, because we buy a toilet for a long service life, it’s not a pair of shoes that you can buy cheaply in a store, and then throw away your socks after 2 months. It is better, if possible, to borrow or take an installment plan and buy what the doctor ordered. It is better to choose a toilet in a large themed store, where the range is presented in a wide range (for example, OBI, Leroy Merlin, Castorama, etc.), below we will go with you to the stores and tell you about each model.

Toilet bowl designs advantages and disadvantages:

"Visor" toilet bowl:

The invaluable advantage of this version of the bowl is 100% protection from splashes and water ingress to the fifth point (the trajectory of waste products falling falls on the protruding bowl).

Flaws:

If this type of bowl is used with a vertical flush of water, then it is natural that when used by men, splashes from the stream of urine fall on the walls and under the rim

that are not washed with water, you have to spend a lot of time maintaining cleanliness.

Toilet bowl:

Previously, this type of bowl was the main protection against splashes in the past, but now modern Russian manufacturers have begun to produce toilets with this type of bowl again, using them in conjunction with a more modern, circular flush of water. In the future, we will tell you about such models - in our trip to the plumbing store - everything in detail.

Flaws:

This type of bowl enhances all the shortcomings of the previous type - the spray from the jet tends to the wall of the room. The angle of incidence of the jet is
75-80 degrees
.
Even modern models like “Rainbow” will not protect your walls from stalocnites
.

Funnel bowl:

This type of bowl is the most common and is used in parallel with the Anti-sand

“, which we will tell you about during your trip to the store - here, be careful when choosing, 70% of Russian and approximately 40% of foreign manufacturers use the pseudo-system “Anti-splash”, and when the seller assures you in the store that there will be no splashes - Don't believe him, he is a selfish deceiver!

Flaws:

There is no splashing from using a toilet with this type of bowl, but there is a chance to buy a pseudo system

"Anti-splash" /

Features and types

Almost all models of toilets with oblique outlets can be divided according to several criteria (classified):

  1. Its main difference from other toilets is where the flush cistern is located. Based on this feature, we can distinguish such toilets as compact toilets with an oblique outlet; products on which the tank is installed separately are no longer sold because they are discontinued due to their unpopularity; plumbing fixtures with a flush cistern of a hidden installation type. The latter are increasingly coming into use because they have two significant advantages: first, thanks to them you get a compact product, since the cistern is mounted in a wall or niche; second, it has a stronger drain, which ideally washes away sewage through the sewer system. Compact plumbing fixtures are in great demand because they are cheaper than toilets with a hidden tank, but they are still gradually becoming a thing of the past, being replaced by more fashionable plumbing fixtures. However, if you look closely, even among compacts you can distinguish several types: toilets with a detachable flush cistern, the main advantage of which is the ease of transportation from the store to your home, and the so-called monoblock compacts, which are a cast product where the toilet is directly combined with tank. Installation of such a toilet with an oblique outlet consists of fixing it to the floor, while simultaneously connecting it to the sewer system. That is, you will not have the stage of assembling the product.
  2. Another important distinguishing feature among toilets is the material from which it is made. Most often you will be dealing with earthenware (they are cheaper) or porcelain products. The former will serve you less than the latter, since earthenware absorbs moisture quite strongly, which leads to a change in its original color and the formation of small cracks on its surface. Porcelain is more expensive, but dirt practically does not linger on it, although it does not withstand shocks and mechanical damage very well. In addition, we present to your attention toilets made of acrylic, which can be maintained with cleaning products that do not contain abrasive particles. Or opt for more exotic and fashionable toilets made of glass, natural stone or copper. The designers even created an aquarium toilet, which has double walls, between which exotic fish swim.
  3. The third feature that allows you to separate toilets with an oblique outlet is the shape of their body. Here we can talk about a disc-shaped product with an oblique release, which is characterized by the fact that it produces a minimal amount of splashes when you use it for its intended purpose. The funnel-shaped toilet is definitely worth mentioning, although it has a number of negative aspects: a lot of splashes during use, poorer drainage and difficulty in caring for it. So it is better to purchase a visor latrine with an oblique outlet.
  4. One of the features by which toilets with oblique outlet are divided is the method of their installation, in other words, the ability to connect them to the water supply system. Here you will be dealing with a floor-mounted toilet with a side outlet and a bottom water supply and a toilet that has a side connection to the water line. The first, by the way, will allow you to almost imperceptibly connect a flexible water hose to the toilet.
  5. And in conclusion, I would like to mention the division of the above-mentioned toilets depending on the type of flush, because it completely depends on the internal components of the flush tank. This can be said about models that provide for continuous drainage of water (full tank) and drainage in a certain dosage (controlled). The second allows you to control the water flow in the tank yourself, depending on which of the two buttons you press: a smaller one - half or a quarter of the water capacity will pour out, a larger one - the drain tank will be completely emptied. This allows you to use water more economically, especially if you have a meter installed.

    Oblique toilet outlet

Let's consider three more important parameters that will protect you from splashes:

Height:

This photo shows that the height of the fall is as small as possible - waste products do not have time to accelerate to a critical speed under the influence of gravitational forces. The Anti-splash system completely eliminates the possibility of splashes.

Trajectory of falling excrement:

Before purchasing the toilet you like, you must carry out measurement manipulations and find out the optimal distance to the “Black Hole”. This picture shows that the smaller it is, the less opportunity there is for splashing. Take the tape measure with you to the store.

Anti-splash system:

You can take a pack of cigarettes with you, not necessarily Parliament. The photo shows that the pack does not reach the water surface by about 3 centimeters. Toilet bowls with a real system have a small hole
,
no more than 10 cm
.

My experiments on measuring safe height:

  1. By measuring the optimal fall height in a wall-hung toilet, we found that the average number is 17 cm.
  2. Measuring the distances, we realized that the safe distance from the edge of the toilet ends at 14 cm, but here we should immediately notify that the parameters of the edge of the toilet vary, just like our fifth point. It is better to measure in advance the optimal and “Safe amount” and, armed with specific data, head to the store.

We’ll start with a trip to the plumbing
store “Neptune
and inspection of the presented range of toilets. The sellers greeted us warmly and gave their consent to photograph the presented toilets.

model "Caesar Lux" No. 1:

  • No visual curvature or irregularities were detected, it looks decent.

  • The fastenings of the toilet lid to the toilet are of good quality - made of metal
, the lid is made of high-quality plastic.

  • The distance from the edge of the toilet when measuring is 15 cm - which will protect you from unpleasant moments. The photo shows that the bowl has an “Anti-sand” system.

  • The height of the fall is 18 cm - which is not bad, plus the trajectory of the fall falls on the porcelain visor.

  • The system is the same as toilet No. 2
    - it is trustworthy and suitable for use in Russian conditions. The only thing is that in a couple of years it will be necessary to clean and adjust the fill valve, and maybe earlier.

PS We analyzed reviews for this model:

Yes, the toilet does not flop and has a good flushing device. But there are also disadvantages that become apparent after the purchase:

  1. Porcelain is fragile, the lid breaks easily, when installing you need to be extremely careful to avoid chipping.
  2. The installation diagram in the instructions is unclear - call a plumber
    .

model "Boreal" toilet No. 2:

  • A visual inspection revealed no problems - everything was smooth and white.

  • The seat is made of duroplast, with metal fastenings.
  • The distance from the edge was 16 centimeters. The photo shows that the toilet is equipped with an Anti-splash system.
  • The measurements show that the fall height is 17 cm
    on the porcelain visor.
  • The “Oli” fittings - we talked about it in the first toilet. Reliable.

Tank and drain fittings

In addition to the design of the plumbing fixture itself, the tank, which, in most cases, comes with the toilet, and the drain mechanism (fittings) are of great importance for flushing.

All existing types of tanks can be divided into two types:

  • Open – in plain sight.
  • Hidden - embedded in the wall or located in an installation (steel structure), which is hidden behind a false wall. From the outside, such tanks resemble a plastic canister, but they are fundamentally no different from classic ones. It must be stated that built-in plumbing looks more attractive, but its price is higher.

Open tanks are divided into two types:

  • Suspended - suspended at a certain height and connected to the toilet using a pipe. With this design, water enters the bowl with enormous pressure, and accordingly, the level of flush quality increases.
  • Mounted on the toilet shelf - connected directly to the toilet using a rubber seal without a pipe or other connecting elements.

As for fittings, there are many types of mechanisms, but they all work on the same principle - the outlet of the container is closed by a valve, which opens when you press a button or lift a lever.

It should be emphasized that recently a system has been installed in the cisterns that supplies the toilet with a double flush. It is implemented using two buttons on the tank - pressing one of them completely drains the contents of the tank, while the second button allows flushing with a dosed portion of water.

Note! After installing the drain fittings, you will need to adjust the float. Information on how this is done is contained in the instructions that come with the mechanism. The water consumption during draining depends on this procedure.

Thus, a toilet with two flush modes saves water. Moreover, the most advanced models are equipped with several buttons that allow you to control various operating modes of the system.

Here, perhaps, are all the options for flush toilets, after familiarizing yourself with which you can choose the most optimal model of plumbing equipment.
