DIY perforated sheet for tools

Tool stand in the garage

A stand made of any material will be a convenient way to mount equipment on the wall in a garage box. The most important thing to understand is that it will not be possible to place heavy spare parts and tools on such a panel. But it is ideal for storing small items that you want to always have on hand. Moreover, any owner of a garage box can make a stand for keys in the garage with his own hands from scrap materials.

Now all stand designs are divided into the following types:

  • Horizontal stands,
  • Vertical panels,
  • Sloping structures.

Standard vertical stands are considered the most convenient for garage owners. With their help, you can ensure that the tool is installed on the wall in your personal garage directly above the workbench and workplace.

If you have different pipes, fishing rods, oars and it is not convenient for you to store them, this option is perfect for the attic, garage or shed.

Dashboard in garage

In order to build a panel for a tool, you do not need to have professional skills. This problem is easily solved by purchasing perforated panels (the material can be tin or HDF) or economy panels (an MDF frame with a groove around the entire perimeter of the product).

Since we are talking about making our own options for mounting tools in the garage, we will look at the option of making a panel from MDF sheet or plywood. Here, first of all, you need to measure the space above the workbench and decide on the size of the product itself. Then you lay out a piece of plywood on the floor and lay out on it everything that needs to be laid on the selected panel. The last step is to drill holes in the selected mounting locations and secure the equipment with screws. As a result, professional panels with tools in the garage are made quickly and simply - all that remains is to place them on the wall in the room.

It is important to know! Often, hooks are installed on tool board panels in the garage without rigid fixation. This raises many questions for garage owners, because it is difficult to secure any things to them. You can only use hooks on the wall for junk in the garage.

What is the best way to place construction equipment in the garage?

The most convenient place to store tools in the garage is a storage panel or shield . You can hang screwdrivers, keys and other small parts on them.

DIY shield for keys and small parts

In order to have small tools at hand when carrying out carpentry or plumbing work, it is important to think through every detail and make a shield.

Shield shelves do not have a large load-bearing capacity and strength, so heavy tools cannot be placed on them. And for storing small parts, such a system will be a godsend.

Pay attention to the following points:

  1. Mount the shelf with tools on a plaster wall. Otherwise, condensation may begin to accumulate on it and the material will begin to rot.
  2. The load per square meter is 14 kg.
  3. The height of the shield depends on how tall the owner is. You should not make it too high, as it will take a lot of effort to pick up the tool.
  4. Closed shelves on the shield will keep some parts protected from dust.

To make a shelf for the garage you need the following equipment:

  • Plywood board.
  • Anchors for reliable fixation.
  • Material for creating shelves.
  • Brackets and hooks.
  • Self-tapping screws.
  • Screwdriver and level.
  • Tape measure and drill.
  • Electric jigsaw.

The storage system creation scheme looks like this:

  1. Selecting the shelf size . You need to fix it in front of the workbench. The best solution would be to make the shelf larger than the workbench.
  2. A board is cut out of plywood and shelves are placed on it.
  3. The side walls are cut out with a jigsaw . Long screws help secure the structure to the wall.
  4. Hooks are attached . Holes are made in the shield and dowels are driven into them. Based on this, you can drill out the hooks. Then you need to attach the brackets to the wall. Using a hammer drill, holes are made and anchors are driven into them. If the shelf is firmly secured, you can secure the structure with a washer.

Do-it-yourself tool shield in the garage

A garage wall is another easy way to keep all the equipment you need indoors. If you want to place only a few sets of keys or attachments on the shield, you will need to cut 2 sheets of plywood that will become the frame of the structure. It is best to place all the tools at a distance of 3-4 centimeters between each other, so that all carpentry equipment can be easily reached.

Having decided on the final size of the frame, you need to make auxiliary options for holders. Their width should be no more than 5-7 centimeters. The next step is to mark the holders according to the standard dimensions of the tool handles. All that remains is to cut out the corresponding cells and secure the holders horizontally to the frame.

Useful tips for organizing your garage space

Since the garage, by its intended purpose, is a home for cars, you should be careful to ensure that the space for tools is well organized. Also, there will probably be several square meters in the room in order to remove some of the items from the apartment, so as not to clutter the living space.

When installing various devices indoors, it is important to consider that all available equipment is at hand. To do this, you can use the following recommendations:

    Regardless of the size of the garage, it is important to have a rack with shelves on which you can put tools, materials and useful items.

If you want to carry out routine car repairs with your own hands or perform other repair work, then you definitely need to make a workbench in the garage.

To overhaul a car, you should make your own cellar - it will not only allow you to regularly inspect the mechanism, but also provide additional storage space.

  • Finally, it is quite possible for a garage to set up its own small workshop, the accessories for which can also be made with your own hands.

Rational organization of space in the garage creates many tangible advantages:

  • it becomes possible to independently carry out short-term repairs of car parts and other mechanisms, due to which you can significantly save money;
  • Convenient placement of tools significantly speeds up work and saves time;
  • creating additional places for storing tools, old things, clothes makes it possible to relieve the apartment of things that are rarely used in the household;
  • Finally, thoughtful internal logistics of the premises allow it to maintain its attractive appearance and avoid clutter.

NOTE. At the project development stage, it is important to take into account the area of the room, and also take into account several mandatory utility compartments - for storing summer and winter tires, cans, jacks, etc.

Tools needed for the garage

Garage tools are indispensable items for every car owner. Quickly unscrew the bolts that secure the wheel, and then change it, drain and refill with fresh oil and antifreeze, even just clear snow or ice from the car windows - a tool that should always be at hand will help you do all this.

This includes gardening and construction equipment, often stored in such premises. This article offers recommendations on how to store tools in the garage correctly, and how to make some products with your own hands.

Garage rack: step-by-step manufacturing instructions

Since the garage always contains quite a lot of items, organizing their arrangement is a fundamental requirement for proper storage. The simplest and at the same time convenient option is to create a rack with shelves.

Preparatory stage

Before you begin installing the structure, you should consider several important requirements:

  • The total weight of the rack should not be more than 4-5 centners - otherwise the structure will be very difficult to move if necessary. It will also put significant pressure on the floor, which can deteriorate the quality of the coating.
  • When choosing materials, it is important to proceed from considerations of strength and durability of the structure. Metal, as well as wooden products made of beech or oak, are ideal. Plastic shelves are not suitable - they are not durable and, moreover, may not withstand temperature changes.
  • When choosing between a metal and wooden structure, you should proceed from your specific needs. Metal is more durable and stronger, but wood is more affordable. If you need to place a few tools, it is enough to make a small wooden rack.
  • Since all the tools are very heavy, you should immediately calculate the strength of the structure so that it can withstand at least 100-150 kg on one shelf.

Installation of a wooden structure

To make such a device for a garage with your own hands, you will need ordinary working tools:

  • hacksaw for wood and metal;
  • hammer, nails;
  • screwdriver, self-tapping screws;
  • construction tape;
  • construction level;
  • electric drill.

The sequence of actions is as follows:

    All necessary calculations of the parameters of each shelf, as well as the entire structure as a whole, are carefully made. You need to proceed from the real needs and the area that can be allocated for the structure. Several drawing options are presented below.
  • Next, the appropriate material is purchased - the actual shelves and supports. To strengthen the structure and increase its service life, you can use metal racks, and it is quite enough to make shelves from wood. This combination option combines durability and affordability.
  • The shelves are made from chipboard sheets. They are cut in accordance with the planned project. The racks are made of wooden beams, the preferred sizes are 100*100 mm or 100*50 mm.
  • On the surface of the prepared parts, appropriate markings are made of the places where the fastening will be made. If necessary, a mark is made for the excavation for communications (pipe).
  • Installation of the structure using self-tapping screws. screwdriver, nails and hammer. You can also use tenons or wood glue.
  • The rack can be attached to the garage wall to provide additional stability to the structure. The work is carried out using metal brackets.

Before assembly, it is important to prime and varnish all wooden parts. The garage may experience high humidity or temperature changes - so without treatment the wood will not last long.

Installation of a metal structure

Metal structures are exceptionally durable and strong. In addition, they do not need to be treated with special materials to prevent rotting.

You can make both a rack and separate structures, for example, for storing rubber, from metal.

In this case, you should take into account the rules for storing tires, which are shown schematically in the figure.

At the design stage of a metal rack, you should take into account that all the necessary items can be freely placed in it. You can take this drawing as a basis.

Or this option.

The easiest option is to purchase a modular design and assemble it yourself. But you can make this device for the garage with your own hands. The sequence of actions is as follows:

    Most often, a profile pipe or a large corner is used as vertical support posts. In this case, it is better to take the largest sizes, since the strength of the entire structure will depend on the dimensions. And for the same reasons, you should choose solid objects, without welded seams.
  • On the selected racks, using a marker, mark all the joints between each other, as well as the fastenings to the wall. The interval between the posts should be no more than 80-90 cm so that the structure is sufficiently reliable.
  • Installation of racks and shelves is best done by welding. During work, you need to constantly check the evenness of the surface using a building level.
  • A metal corner of 5*5 cm (or 7*7 cm) is optimal for transverse bases.
  • It is better to strengthen the shelves on which the most massive equipment is supposed to be placed, by welding additional metal supports underneath them.

It is better to place the heaviest equipment on the lower shelves for optimal load distribution throughout the rack. In this case, the best option is when the lower ceilings are made of corrugated metal, and for the upper ones it is quite acceptable to use durable chipboard.

Hanging shelves: fast and practical

Not in all cases there is a need to create a rack, since it will take up a lot of space. On the other hand, in a garage of any size there is always unused upper space, which can easily be used for hanging shelves.

Structurally, it is quite possible to make any version of such a device for the garage with your own hands:

    Wall shelves can be equipped in both open and closed versions. They are convenient due to their spaciousness, as well as ease of construction. They can be hung on a loop or using an anchor. In the first case, a collapsible structure is obtained, the location of which can be conveniently changed at any time. In the second, the shelf gains additional strength due to the reliability of its installation with the wall.

Hanging shelves are attached to the ceiling. Due to the peculiarities of their location, they occupy exactly that part of the space that is not used and do not interfere with the car at all. The disadvantages of the design include its lack of reliability - it can sway a little upon contact. However, for small items (hammer, pliers, screwdriver, paint, etc.) it will do just fine.

An interesting option for storing tools is to make one wall or a fragment of it in the form of a shield. The shield is attached using anchors, and then small shelves are selected and mounted on it.

You can also build a shield yourself from wooden beams, as shown in the photo.

ADVICE. It is better to place such a shield on the same side on which the workbench will be located, so that all the tools are literally at hand.

To store large items of small weight, you can design hanging shelves that are attached to the ceiling using studs.

To make these devices for placing useful items in the garage with your own hands, you will need the following materials and tools:

studs and shelf base - most often plywood or chipboard is used, the thickness of which depends on the expected loads;

large anchors (at the rate of 4 units per 1 shelf);

hexagonal and regular nuts;

  • flat washers and special Grover washers (at the rate of 4 units per 1 shelf.

The tools you will need are the standard set described above. The sequence of actions is as follows:

  • Shelves of appropriate sizes are calculated and cut out. It is better to immediately treat them with primer and varnishes and let them dry completely.
  • Markings are made on them for fastening. If the shelf is long, the supporting supports should be placed at a distance of no more than 60 cm.
  • It is better to reinforce the ends of the plywood with a metal profile to ensure maximum reliability of the structure.
  • The edges are marked with grooves into which the studs will be mounted. They should be placed at least 5-7 cm with a margin from the edge so that the wood does not crumble during prolonged loads.
  • All grooves and holes are drilled, then future fastening locations are marked along the wall and/or ceiling.
  • The holes on the wall are also drilled, after which the anchors are inserted into them all the way.
  • The studs are connected to the anchors, as shown in the photo.
  • Finally, the shelf itself is put on and secured using regular washers and Grover washers.
  • The level checks the correct location and makes adjustments if necessary.

If the shelf is mounted to the ceiling, you can strengthen its connection to the wall using metal corners - then the product will not swing and will last much longer.

The entire technology is shown schematically in the figure.

Making a shield shelf

The DIY technology for making such a device for a garage has its own differences compared to installing conventional shelves:

  • The shield itself is made of durable plywood, the parameters of which are selected according to the situation. Visually, the shield should completely cover the surface of the desktop.
  • Space is allocated on the board for all shelves and appropriate notes are made.
  • Next, all the holes into which the dowels fit are made in the surface of the structure. It is on them that the hooks will be attached, on which all the tools will be placed.
  • The shield is secured to the wall using brackets. The corresponding holes are made using a hammer drill.

All steps are shown schematically in the figure.

Workbench for a garage: step-by-step instructions

Another structure that will probably be needed for repair, plumbing and other types of work is a workbench. It can be purchased in a store, but if you have a certain skill, then it is quite possible to make such a device with your own hands and put it in the garage.

Before carrying out the actual installation work, it is important to clarify several important details:

  • Where will the table be located?
  • What kind of work will mainly be carried out on it.
  • What work surface material is suitable - metal or wood?

All these questions are closely related to the purpose of the product. If work is expected to be done frequently, then it is better to choose durable metal. And for standard household tasks, durable wood will do.

It is important to understand that a workbench is not just a work surface. Often it combines the function of a wardrobe, a small chest of drawers and even a metal safe - this set of parameters depends on the specific configuration of the product.

Types of workbenches

The key classification of workbenches is based on the types of work that are supposed to be carried out on it:

    on a metalworking bench they work with metal parts - accordingly, the surface of the table must be metal;
  • In carpentry they work with wooden blanks.

At the same time, these functions can be combined, so such a classification is largely arbitrary. The best option for such a garage device is a design on a metal frame with a wooden table surface and drawers. It is more reliable than its wooden counterpart, and allows you to save on manufacturing due to the fact that some parts will be made of wood. The surface of the table can be reinforced with a metal sheet - then the workbench will last a very long time.

Technology for making a workbench from a metal frame

To install the structure you will need a standard set of tools and materials:

  • welding machine;
  • grinder for metal;
  • building level;
  • jigsaw for wood;
  • screwdriver, drill;
  • self-tapping screws, anchor bolts;
  • hammer and nails;
  • metal corners with parameters 5*5 cm;
  • square pipes 6*4 cm, total length about 24-25 m;
  • steel strip 4 cm thick, up to 8-9 m long;
  • paint for wood and metal processing.

These parameters are intended for the manufacture of a finished product with table parameters of 220*75 cm, as shown in the figure.

The sequence of actions is as follows:

  • Making a frame from a metal pipe and a steel angle to create reinforcement in the corners of the structure. Load-bearing parts are made from pipes in accordance with the drawing.
  • Next, the frame is welded. The work is carried out in such a way that the same part can be placed on top, onto which the working surface itself will then go.
  • Stands are mounted at 4 corners of the product by welding; the optimal height is 90 cm.
  • The next stage involves the installation of square frames with intermediate supports for future boxes, which can be made of wood.
  • Next, the tabletop frame is welded and mounted to the main structure.
    Next, you need to strengthen the entire structure. To do this, brackets are installed from a steel strip (you can cut them using a grinder).

    Reinforcement is also achieved by creating rigid triangular structures.

    The next steps involve the creation of additional elements - wooden boxes, which are made from plywood, and the table surface.

    Guide elements are mounted on the drawers.

    The base of the tabletop is dense boards, the thickness of which should be at least 4-5 cm. They are sawed to the appropriate size and laid on the frame.

    Next, the boards are sanded and treated with an antiseptic.

    Next, a sheet of metal is mounted and treated with paint to prevent corrosion.

    Finally, all that remains is to install the drawers in place and place the workbench in its proper place.

  • Regular handles are mounted to the drawers, and the back surface is equipped with a board and a protective screen on top.

Even at the stage of designing a workbench, it is important to decide whether the device will be collapsible or whether it will be permanently installed in the garage. In the case of a collapsible version, all parts are attached using self-tapping screws, and the principles of the technology will be different.

Wooden workbench manufacturing technology

A wooden workbench is less durable than a metal one. It is well suited for cases where the work is supposed to be done less often - several times a year.

To make this device for the garage with your own hands, you can use the same drawing given above, or take the diagram shown in the figure as a sample.

The algorithm will be something like this:

    First, a wooden frame is made, which is a structure made of wooden beams. It is better to choose dense, heavy tree species (oak or beech). To make the structure reliable and rigid, it is better to strengthen it with an additional horizontal base, as shown in the photo.

It is important to calculate all grooves in wooden beams to the nearest millimeter so that the fastening is solid. During installation, you first need to glue the mating surfaces, and then reinforce them with clamps or self-tapping screws.

NOTE. A workbench that provides the possibility of attaching one of its sides to the wall surface will be more reliable. To do this, the rear pillars can be chosen wider in size and reinforced with an additional horizontal jumper. Then the product will be articulated with the wall in racks and horizontal bars.

  • At the last stage, the tabletop itself is made, which, if possible, is covered with a metal sheet. If provided by the project, wooden boxes with guides are made and mounted in the side of the workbench.

Along with creating the considered devices for the garage, you can also take care of making your own working tools that will be needed directly for car maintenance.

One of the most useful installations is a tipper for inspecting the bottom of the car. The need for such a product is most relevant for Russian realities, since not in every case there is a real possibility of constructing an inspection hole.

Before making such an installation, it is extremely important to consider the issue of safety. Even a light car can cause an accident if it falls and, at a minimum, will receive serious damage. Therefore, you can only undertake the creation of such a design if you have sufficient skill.

Self-manufacturing of garage accessories allows you to rationally organize the internal space and essentially get your own workshop in which you can carry out any ongoing repair work.

Wall-mounted tool storage systems

There are many different tools and equipment collected in a garage or workshop. If you don’t think through the storage system, then finding the right item is not so easy. To create perfect order in your garage and save time spent searching for a specific tool, you need to collect all the necessary items in one convenient area. A wall mounting system is ideal for this purpose. Thanks to this arrangement of tools, the room is decluttered and usable space is freed up. All necessary devices are placed in plain sight.

Rules for zoning garages into functional areas

The garage is often used as a workshop, so it is important to organize tool storage in such a way that everything is organized.

First of all, you will have to think about how to place the tools in the room, and for this you should listen to the unwritten rules of garage zoning.

  • passage space - part of the room that must always remain free;
  • easy access space - a place to store small items that are used most often;
  • space for thin or tall instruments - the organization of this area should be separated from the rest. For example, gardening tools (forks, brooms, shovels) are stored here;
  • space for storing large items - here it is customary to store things that are rarely used, or whose sizes are much larger than others;
  • space for essentials - things that are often necessary in everyday life are stored here (such items can be hung on the wall);
  • workspace is a place for carrying out certain work.

Top best ideas for storing tools

Since instruments can be long and short, large and small, and different in shape, the methods of storing them also differ. There are several methods for systematizing tools. Below are the most convenient and popular ones that you can do with your own hands directly on the wall.

Vertical storage systems such as racks

One of the types of vertical storage of tools is a system in the form of racks. The most necessary tools that can be placed within easy reach should be placed on the racks. Items that are needed less frequently are removed to distant racks on the upper or lower shelves. Metal garage shelves - IF systems - are perfect for this.

According to the types of installation, racks can be:

  • stationary and collapsible;
  • rotating or movable;
  • hinged, retractable.

But even with a large selection of options, the proposals will not always satisfy the necessary needs of the garage owner. Therefore, it is recommended to combine store-bought shelving with homemade holders and shelves, or design a complete wall-mounted storage system yourself.

Vertical homemade wooden racks with slots for storing wrenches and screwdrivers are very convenient. They can easily accommodate adapter bushings for attaching tools with a conical shank of different sizes or pliers.

A vertical rack in the form of a mobile stand is an excellent choice for storing handy tools. It is recommended to make it from wood or plywood. Separate groups of tools are placed on hooks, magnets or shelves. Special perforated panels are often used for vertical storage systems.

Magnetic tape

Magnetic tape is simple and easy to use. Magnetic strips are taken to secure the tool and mounted on a wall storage system. You can attach a variety of tools to the tape: from small metal wrenches and screwdrivers to large objects.

Plastic containers

You can easily organize the storage of even the smallest items by assembling a system of small containers. You can store in them:

  • small parts, drill bits for a drill;
  • nails, nuts and screws, self-tapping screws;
  • buttons, clips and much more.

The most affordable way is plastic bottles of different sizes or plastic containers, as well as small glass jars. Containers can be arranged on a vertical system on shelves or attached directly to the wall to save space.

Plastic opaque canisters with the top cut off will also work. If desired, they can be signed or numbered.

Organizers

To store small parts and objects, you can easily design an organizer with your own hands:

  1. Take any box from an old unnecessary table and make many small partitions inside it from cardboard or plywood. Thanks to separate cells, all the small necessary parts will always be in their place, sorted by configuration.
  2. If you make an organizer yourself, you need to take a piece of polystyrene - this will be the bottom of the organizer, and for the walls and partitions - PVC (glue it to the bottom), for the lid you can use transparent plastic or glass.
  3. You can easily and quickly make an organizer for screwdrivers. It can be made according to the instructions, as in steps 1 or 2. Or you can drill holes of the required diameters in a block of wood or foam, then attach it to the wall and insert a screwdriver into the holes. All items will be visible and will not get lost.
  4. Another version of the organizer is assembled from cans of different sizes. The tins are quickly and firmly attached to a vertical wall in any convenient position and filled with either small parts or tools.

Garden tool rack

Garden tools always take up a lot of space and clutter the aisles. This can be avoided by choosing one of the walls of the garage or workshop and converting it to store garden tools. It is recommended to use ordinary PVC pipes to create a storage system, and make holders from them according to the size of garden tools and other things:

  • shovels, buckets, rakes;
  • bicycle;
  • skis and ski poles, sleds, skates.

There are very simple options for mounting tools in the garage:

  1. Racks for garden tools. They are made from ordinary wooden pallets. It is leaned against the wall with its bottom and fixed with self-tapping screws; slats of any size are nailed to the sides.
  2. Another simple way is ordinary strong and reliable wooden or metal hooks along the entire wall, where you can hang equipment, extension cords of different sizes. Stronger brackets and shelves can be used to store wheels, tires, and an inflatable boat.

Storage of garden and work tools and other things using wall systems and racks is convenient and popular.

On the wall

Wall shelves are available: open or closed. They may or may not have a posterior wall. Most often, a metal corner and a wooden base are used in their manufacture.

The finished structure is suspended on anchors and the type of its fastening can be permanent or dismantled. Such designs are quite practical, functional and easy to use.

We invite you to watch a video about making a wall shelf with your own hands:

Technology for creating a wooden tool rack in the garage with your own hands

Before you create a storage rack with your own hands, you need to decide on the total number of tools that need to be placed.

Creating a Project

To make the wall system convenient, draw up a plan-drawing of the future structure on paper, which takes into account all the requirements for the system:

  • Calculate the height and width of the rack - it is better to use the entire wall from bottom to top.
  • The recommended depth of niches for shelving is up to 65 cm, and the width between the vertical supports of the shelves is up to 1 m.
  • Determine the required number of shelves, including how many holder shelves with cuts for tools.
  • At the bottom there are spacious floor shelves and racks for tires, wheels and large carpentry tools.
  • Mark places for magnetic tapes, hooks, and holders.
  • They calculate how many organizers and containers are required, what sizes, and also determine their location.
  • Sort tools and all small fasteners and parts for storage.

Making a perforated panel with your own hands

DIY soft panels for walls

Metal sheet 3 mm

In order to save personal funds, some craftsmen try to make the above products themselves; to do this, they must follow the following algorithm:

Sheet metal of the required thickness is purchased, which must correspond to the planned load. Retail outlets sell metal from one millimeter to 5-7 millimeters thick

It is important to take into account here that the thicker the sheet, the higher its nominal weight, therefore, the fastening mechanism for fixing it on the wall must be reinforced; The future product is marked. Here it is not necessary to know the exact location of the hooks and brackets, since it is very difficult to predict

Many craftsmen first install the metal sheet to the wall, and only then make holes in the right places;

Drilling sheet

  1. The edges of the sheet are folded around the entire perimeter. This is necessary to remove sharp corners and add additional rigidity to the entire structure. You can bend the metal on a special machine or by clamping the edge in a stationary vice. The height of the bend should correspond to the thickness of the future bracket;
  2. Wooden blocks or a metal corner are screwed onto the resulting product and placed into a niche formed along the entire length of the sheet. It is this block that will be the basis for fixing the entire panel to the wall surface;

Anchor installation

  1. Using anchor bolts through holes drilled through the block, the panel is mounted on the wall. Due to the thickness of the wood, the perforated sheet will be removed from the surface by several centimeters, which is enough to install fastening hooks;
  2. Supporting brackets are bent from thick-walled wire or sheet metal residues, which will subsequently be inserted into the holes;
  3. At the final stage, the entire assembled structure is painted with acrylic or alkyd enamel, including the supporting hooks.

After the panel has completely dried, it can be used, tools and other devices can be hung on the brackets, and when small cabinets are added to the surface, boxes can be organized for storing screws, bolts and other small elements.

Of course, factory-produced perforated panels purchased at retail outlets have a more acceptable appearance, but their cost is much higher than making such platforms yourself.

Preparation of material

All the necessary material to create the rack is prepared according to the drawn up project:

  • For the main panel of the holder, you can use a perforated panel.
  • If the rack is made of wood, it is recommended to purchase oak or pine lumber without cracks or knots.
  • Wooden boards up to 2.5 cm thick will be required for shelves.
  • Shelves can be made from regular and laminated plywood.
  • The vertical posts of the frame are made of 10x10 cm timber.
  • It is recommended to pre-treat wooden boards with anti-mold and mildew agents and paint them.
  • To assemble a metal frame, you need a rectangular profile and corners (up to 2 cm).

Manufacturing of components

The procedure for manufacturing the rack and components is as follows:

  1. Vertical racks made of timber and boards or plywood are cut into shelves according to the given dimensions, and a perforated panel is prepared. Mark out places for shelves.
  2. To make a metal frame, cut blanks of the required height with a grinder and mark the locations of the shelves. The frame is assembled using fasteners and corners. A primer is applied, then the parts are coated with anti-corrosion paint.
  3. The shelves are assembled from boards. They are pressed tightly together and nailed together with nails or screws.
  4. Shelves from boards are assembled by laying elements across the frame, so they can withstand a lot of weight. If the shelves are assembled by laying boards along the frame, then there is a chance that they will sag under the weight of the tools.
  5. The structure is assembled using self-tapping screws, nails and wood glue.
  6. The joints of all parts are additionally reinforced with metal corners.
  7. The entire structure is installed on the wall and secured with metal brackets.
  8. Shelves with grooves, holders, magnetic tapes, racks, containers and organizers are manufactured separately in the required quantity.
  9. You may need a small workbench with a vise made from wooden boards. It can be attached to the wall system as a fixed or folding surface on metal or wooden holders.

First, the frame of the rack is assembled, then wooden shelves are attached to it with self-tapping screws. The shelves of the rack are filled with pull-out baskets, organizers, containers and other holders. Hooks, magnets and magnetic tapes are attached to the perforated panel. Tools are placed on them. For convenient fastening of pliers, a mount in the form of a crossbar is installed on the perforated panel. Containers are filled with small fasteners and tools. Garden tools, bicycles, tires and wheels, skis, skates and sleds are hung on holders or racks, or placed in containers.

Manufacturing of plastic shelving

Plastic racks are distinguished by: low weight, ease of manufacture, ease of assembly. Such structures are not afraid of corrosion. They do not need painting and are quite easy to care for. Their only drawback is their small carrying capacity. That is, heavy tools cannot be stored on such a product.

Plastic shelves consist of vertical shelves and racks, which are best made of hard plastic that can withstand weight up to 50 kg. The racks are assembled quite easily and quickly. They can be attached to the wall for added stability.

Processing and painting of the finished product

The finished rack is once again treated to remove mold, and the ends are painted in several layers of paint. Containers and organizers can be painted the same color as the rack itself.

Most often, a workshop or garage does not look its best due to clutter. But thanks to the creation of a wall-mounted system for storing tools in the form of racks, all the necessary necessary items, fasteners, and equipment will be correctly sorted and placed. The room will take on a neat appearance, and all work can be completed quickly and without delays.

How to do it?

Shelves and racks in the workshop are irreplaceable. Since they contain spare parts, components, tools, fasteners, bolts, nuts and much more. With the right approach, shelves can even become an original piece of furniture, combining practicality, ease of use and a certain elegance.

Before you start making a shelf with your own hands, you need to think through important nuances:

  • Product dimensions. They will depend on the size of the room, personal preferences and the type of activity of the master.
  • Manufacturing materials. These can be structures made of metal, plastic, wood.
  • Construction type. This can be a hanging shelf attached to the wall, a floor-mounted option, or a shelf located on a workbench. The main thing is that the structure you make is securely fastened, there should be free access to it, and it should not interfere with the work process.

Once you have decided on the design and type of shelf, selected the manufacturing material, stocked up on the necessary tools and materials, you can get to work:

  1. First, a drawing of the future rack is created, which indicates the exact dimensions, joints, and appearance. Here you can either come up with a design yourself or find a ready-made version on the Internet.
  2. Next, prepare the place where the product will be installed. If it is a wall structure, check the levelness of the wall. Remove all irregularities and minor defects from the surface. If the product will be placed on the floor, check it for evenness and strength.
  3. Now we begin to manufacture the components, cut out the shelves according to the drawing, make holes and grooves in them.
  4. The next step will be assembling the product. The most difficult process is installing the drawers. Here you will need to correctly install the guides and make sure that the surfaces do not rub against each other.

After assembling the shelf, finishing is carried out:

  1. Wooden surfaces are cleaned with a grinder or sandpaper, covered with stain and painted with varnish or paint in several layers.
  2. If there are metal elements, they are treated with anti-corrosion compounds, primed and painted with water-based paint.
